Top Games for 2014 Football Season - GoApps70 - 03-15-2014 02:55 AM

Have not seen this posted.
Everyone has their opinion on what the top football games of this coming football season will be. Can agree with some of these.

Am sure some of us would have other ideas of their top five Sun Belt football games in 2014.

The most important games are the ones that involve my South Alabama Jaguars!!! 04-cheers

App vs Southern and Southern vs State. Got a feeling these two games will be among all of G5's top rivalries within a few years.

The article said we finished behind Louisiana but the conf considers us tied.

RE: Top Games for 2014 Football Season - slycat - 03-15-2014 02:47 PM

I feel Texas St vs Louisiana should be on the list but hard to argue with it.

I wish UTSA was still in our conference just to have a "rival" thats 45 mins away instead of 6-7 hours.

TXST hasn't played anyone in football consistently enough for me to consider them rivals but i'm glad to start making them in the SBC. Basketball and baseball rivalries are not real rivalries around here, football is king.

Thats why I said "rival". UTSA would be the ideal one being so close, plenty of grads work together, and easy travel. But I really look forward to growing our relationship with UL.

Not surprised Georgia Southern versus App is considered one of Sun Belt's top games -- I'm just surprised the Mountaineers have a winning record against the Eagles.

Gotta take a step toward evening that record up in 2014.

Georgia Southern and Appalachian State have played each other 29 times but who's counting 04-rock

While I always look forward to playing App my top game this year is GA St. Goin to stop some Panthers in Da Dome!

RE: Top Games for 2014 Football Season - GaSoEagle - 03-17-2014 06:10 PM

To me App. St. is our biggest rival. Some incredible games over the last 20 years or so. We have not had much success over the last 3-4 years but I am really excited about this year's game.

Do they all finish like this? Nah. But this rivalry brings the kinda hate that dreams are made of.

Wow...29 times?

WKU has beaten MT 29 times.

Oh we've also beaten them 32 times.

Also we tied once.

But 29 games...that's actually a lot in the Sun Belt, Cajuns vs ULM(49 times) is probably the only more played rivalry in the conference.

Gotta remember we've only been around since the early 80's and weren't in the SoCon until early 90's.

It's a fierce rivalry and one I look forward to each year.

Nope been around a lot longer but war got in the way. Our history with App goes back to 1932. In the modern era we are 10-13. It is the perfect definition of a rivalry as the games are rarely blowouts and only once has a team won four in a row, GSU did but it included a playoff win in the same year. If App wins next year it will be the first time either team won four regular season games in a row.

RE: Top Games for 2014 Football Season - trueeagle98 - 03-18-2014 11:05 AM

It's our one true rivalry (for a while it was Furman, but that has faded and App has become THE team to hate). GS has only been playing for just over 30 years, so having a 29 game history with a team is about as far back as it can go. I just can't count those games before WWII.

I see the GS vs GSU game becoming a great instate rival. I also will look forward to playing Troy and TxSt. I'm really hoping to play stAte and UL soon, but I think we'll only see them in a CCG 04-cheers

Some of you can't see it, but the SBC will be a great conference if you just give it a chance.

Still need a great name for the GaSo -vs- App State game.
Would think something like "There Will Be Blood" would be good,
but in such a PC world would probably not go over real well.

some group advocating people with a phobia to blood would probably say it is offensive to them.

Good God this country is raising a bunch of sissies.
