AAC Tourney - blutgr39 - 02-23-2014 04:26 PM

Who would you rather play ... SMU or UConn?

AAC Tourney - uofmbrad - 02-23-2014 04:29 PM

SMU...I've said since our loss in Dallas that we'll beat them by 12-15+ on 3/8.

SMU

I believe SMU is a better team than you give credit. I will be happy to beat them by any margin.

Yep. They are legit. This ain't Daugherty's ponies.

Guess we will know more after SMU comes to Memphis. Napier scares me to death. Not sure SMU has anyone as good as him.

RE: AAC Tourney - LegolElf - 02-23-2014 04:44 PM

SMU is legit, and is a matchup problem for us (just like they are for UConn). SMU is VERY fundamentally sound... Larry Brown effect.

However, it will be tough for UConn to beat Memphis THREE times in a row in a season, especially on our home floor in a tourney atmosphere.

With that said, I'm thinking we might not face either. If we can get the 3 seed, we will get Houston in quarters, then either UL/Cincy in semis, and likely the other in finals (unless they upset by UConn/SMU or Memphis gets put out early).

LOT of games to be played, and LOT of movement left to be determined for seeding. This is fun.

line them both up!

Let's emphasize that. We haven't had this kind of competition in a LONG time. We will be ready for March. Guaranteed.

And let's not forget that our opponent last night defeated this legit SMU team. Everybody's good?

RE: AAC Tourney - LegolElf - 02-23-2014 05:24 PM

Agreed. We will be better in that second game of the tourney in March. I really think of the 5 teams we get to NCAA tourney, we have 2 or 3 of them get to sweet 16.

I'm loving this season. These league games are what's been missing since 2005 when CUSA blew up. It allowed Memphis to make a magical 4 year run, that spoiled us as fans. But it's time to get back to reality and enjoy the present because these games are very entertaining and the competition level is really good.

Exactly what I was trying to say in another thread...when the UM attack dogs came out.

RE: AAC Tourney - payday - 02-23-2014 05:52 PM

With their recruiting class, SMU will be pre season Top 10. And that's a good thing. Temple should be decent too. Of course Cincy and UConn will always be a top program. Plenty of competition for Memphis looking ahead. If the rest step up only a little, this will be a great conference.

RE: AAC Tourney - payday - 02-23-2014 05:53 PM

At least in hoops. Doh!

That Larry Brown really is amazing huh? He wouldn't have stayed at Memphis long but I'll always wonder what he would have done if he had been hired instead of Kirk....

AAC Tourney - Pony94 - 02-23-2014 08:50 PM

Finally my #1 team is starting to play up to my #2 team and I am glad it is due to SMU playing better and not Memphis slipping

This - but it's about matchups. Me? I can't say. Both teams are legit and I fear Memphis would have trouble with both.

Side note - SMU will win the conference next season IMO.
