The Bucs finish out the regular conference season with 3 road games, against UNF, USCU and Jacksonville. These last games will determine whether the Bucs get a tournament home game: they are currently tied with USCU at 9-6, and ½ game ahead of UNF at 8-6. So the Bucs have road games against each of the teams that they need to beat. But the first road game is against 5-9 Jacksonville, which ranks below both UNF and USCU. If the Bucs want to finish strong, they need to start this swing with a win in Jacksonville.
BACK COURT: 6’2” 200 5-Sr. Vince Martin (32.8 min., 8.3 ppg, .280 from 3, 3.4 rpg, 4.5 assists, 1.9 stl); 6’4” 185 So. Jarvis Haywood (29.5 min., 15.9 ppg, .422 from 3, 4.4 rpg); and 6’1” 205 Sr. Keith McDougald (28.1 min., 14.6 ppg., .273 from 3, 3.1 rpg)
FRONT COURT: 6’9” 220 5-Sr. R.J. Slawson (27.2 minutes, 9.6 ppg, 7.9 rpg, 1.9 blocks); 6’6” 260 Sr. Javon Dawson (29.2 min., 10.1 ppg on .461 from the field, 6.6 rpg)
Bench: 6’7” 180 Fr. J.R. Holder (16.9 minutes, 8.5 ppg, 1.9 rpg); 6’6” 200 Fr. Marcel White (15.5 min., 4.6 ppg, 2.6 rpg)
There is a 6.4 ppg difference in scoring margin, in ETSU’s favor. The Bucs also have an edge in free throw percentage (.739 to .702) and free throws made (528-436); an edge in field goal percentage defense (.445, 4th in the ASun, to .487 for Jacksonville, last in the ASun); an edge in 3 point shooting (207 made on .358 to 148 made on .322) and an edge in 3 point defense (.333 percentage for opponents of ETSU, compared to .382 for opponents of Jacksonville).
Defensively, Jacksonville are ballhawkers, 2nd to the 1st place Bucs in steals, getting 7.5 steals to 7.6 for ETSU. But the Bucs are more effective in holding opponents to lower shooting percentages, both from 3 and from the field generally as noted above. ETSU also has a small edge in turnover margin (+2.32 to +0.52) and rebounding margin (-2.7 to -3.4).
The Bucs have shown that they have a way to win with this team. But it takes the kind of 40 minute effort that was on display against FGCU, with Lester and A.J. continuing their recent uptick, Rashawn continuing to expand his game, Jalen tempering his swagger with smart decisions, Hunter and KGG giving us their ‘A’ games, Petey providing the energy and not being afraid to drive to the hoop, and Lukas being tough off the bench. When they are clicking, they have been a lot of fun to watch.
What I will be hoping for on this swing, is the team playing together with the kind of energy that they showed at home the last couple of games. If they do that, the wins will take care of themselves.

JU has underachieved this season, but they're athletic, talented, and led by the cagey point guard, Vince Martin. I suspect they look for retribution, as we did against FGCU.
I hope the Bucs are beyond the on-again, off-again performances that have marked this season. This is no time for complacency.
