The Way too early next year rotation. - WColt45 - 01-14-2014 04:28 PM

I know it is early and everyone is still focused on this year, but I was looking at next year's potential rotation after this year's PT has been discussed with possible transfers to those not getting time on the court. It looks to me like the guard rotation will be WIDE open next year for some of the guys on the end of the bench such as Damien Wilson or Kuran who some have stated they might think about leaving. Here's what I have so far...

PG
Pookie Powell (6-0) redshirt FR
Dominic Magee (6-3) True FR - 4* recruit

I think this one is a toss up as to who gets the majority of the minutes

SG/SF

Nick King (6-7) SO
Kuran Iverson (6-9) SO
Damien Wilson (6-6) JR
Markiel Crawford (6-4) redshirt FR
Trahson Burrell (6-7) JUCO transfer
Avery Woodson (6-3) JUCO transfer

There are a lot of minutes up for grab with our wing/guard players, there is a lot of inexperience here, We'll see if someone steps up, or if Pastner tries to do this by committee...

PF/C

Shaq Goodwin (6-9) JR
Austin Nichols (6-8) SO
Dominic Woodson (6-10) SO
Chris Hawkins (6-5) JUCO transfer

Our big man rotation will be the strength of our team, with Shaq being the anchor...

I also wonder if maybe we might catch a transfer player or 2 the way we did with Pellom/Dixon this year...

Lyle/Pookie/Mcgee
Woodson/Crawford
King/Burrell
Nichols/Iverson/Hawkins
Shaq/Woodson

Wilson will transfer and we will pick up a transfer. Will only role with 12

If we can keep our front court in place our guards will not have as much pressure scoring...

If they can defend we could be a very dangerous team.

No Damien Wilson next year; I think he will transfer.
Wouldn't surprise me to see us add another big man grad transfer next year....keeps the scholly open for the following year's monster recruiting class.

Do you really think that we are getting Lyle. Plus, I think Magee and Iverson will be our backcourt with Nick and Pookie as first off the bench

I doubt Iverson stays

RE: The Way too early next year rotation. - Dick'sHatBand - 01-14-2014 05:30 PM

I think Iverson plays a huge role on this team next year. I think (hope) he stays.

His choices are to play in Europe or sit a year.

I bet he stays.

Until/unless he improves his work ethic and attitude, it won't be a big loss if he does transfer. I'm really hoping he grows up over the offseason and recognizes the opportunity in front of him in 2014-2015. He won't be the first to not have the maturity to do so.

Not sure if his "handlers" are helping or hurting in this instance, but he does seems like an athlete with some serious upside if he'll put in the work during the offseason.

IMO, The first thing they need to do is put him at the 4 and coach him up to play back to basket, where he can compete with his 6-10 frame.

Iverson can become a great player. I hope Josh finds a few minutes here and there for him, I think all he needs is playing time. Saturday should provide a lot of mid-season minutes.

Unless he is being advised by AT's posse. Hard to imagine this line of thinking: You not good enough/ready to crack a starting lineup but you should go pro.

Yeah, he may be able to play some 3 as well.

Wonder what we could be ranked?

RE: The Way too early next year rotation. - BigTigerMike - 01-14-2014 07:57 PM

In passing I heard Easterwood say tonight that the staff has pulled Austin, Kuran, Dom and Nick King to the side and told them that they are the future of the tiger program but that this year they have to be patient and work within the system of the program considering the senior guards, Pellom and Shaq....etc. He also said that they have told Dom that the center position is possibly available to him next year if he puts in the necessary work. (Meaning get in shape).

RE: The Way too early next year rotation. - Mimi - 01-14-2014 11:15 PM

They have been so much the face of the program under Pastner- that right now it is hard to imagine any team without Joe Jackson and Chris Crawford. We have certainly had 4 year players, even had the pair of Anderson and Dozier that left at the same time in 09 as there was a huge turnover on the team- but they were never the single best player- it was either DWash-SWilliams or Carney, then CDR and Rose.

Glad that even with losing them- there will still be several returnees- but things will be different.

RE: The Way too early next year rotation. - Bluebeard - 01-14-2014 11:28 PM

King is a 3. Not a 4.

Hawkins is a 4. Not a 3.

Pookie should start at the 1 from day 1. Markel should start at the 2.

I hope Iverson, Wilson and Shaq are still around.

I don't expect much from Burrell and Avery Woodson.

1. Pookie

2. Markel

3. King

4. Nichols

5. Shaq

Iverson gets big minutes at the 3 and 4

Wilson gets big minutes at the 2 and 3

Dominic Woodson is the first big off the bench and starts at the 5 if Shaq leaves for some reason.

I totally agree with Bo about Iverson. Why all the love for Wilson? He shows me next to nothing. I really hope we are longer at guard next year. Shaq would have to show me hella lot more before I would advised him to turn pro aka AT.

Leave and sit a year when we've got 5 seniors graduating after this year? I don't see it.
