I started to provide an opinion several times, but was stymied by actual results that precluded me from including any particular school. There are very good arguments why anyone of 10 schools could be considered, and I'm opting out. Nothing good can come from this thread...although it might be interesting to watch! I will say I wasn't surprised that the MWC board was Western-centric in their assumptions, to answer your question.

RE: Ranking The Top Five Non-AQ Schools - MDH - 12-29-2013 07:42 PM

Fresno, Utah St, BGSU, Rice and Marshall

RE: Ranking The Top Five Non-AQ Schools - keebler645 - 12-29-2013 08:31 PM

Going in to Bowl Season, I would have had:

1. Fresno
2. NIU
3. BGSU
4. Rice
5. Marshall
6. BYU
7. East Carolina
8. Ball State
9. Utah State
10. North Texas

After Bowl Season (assuming wins by Rice, Ball State, and North Texas):

1. Rice
2. Fresno
3. Marshall
4. Utah State
5. Northern Illinois
6. East Carolina
7. Ball State
8. North Texas
9. Bowling Green
10. MT/Navy winner

I'd drop Rice down to around 6 with a loss while Ball State or North Texas losses drop them out completely and move up BYU or UTSA.

Pretty on point, Utah St deserves a lot of credit for what they've done this year after Keaton went down and with a first year coach.

You really believe that don't you? ECU has had a losing record 6 of the last 12 years. You have only won 52% of your games all time. You have finished ranked 3 times in your history, most recently was 18 years ago. You're 3-7 in bowl games this century. You have 2 10 or more win seasons in your history.

You don't have anymore of a program than a couple dozen other mid-majors. You have a fan base that attends games well, that's your only real distinction.

okay you got me go back to the 1930's. Either way, we have owned your team.

RE: Ranking The Top Five Non-AQ Schools - banker - 12-31-2013 11:42 PM

So you don't count all the games when you calculate "all time winning percentage"?

Oh, and this wasn't an ECU Marshall thing. This was about r2's claim that you had some type of superior program compared to other non AQ schools. You are a top 25 non AQ, but so are 24 other schools.

According to your buddy SJ, head-to-head doesn't count. It's your body of work that counts. And Marshall's body of work (conference championships, years ranked in top 25, Heisman finalists, bowl wins, marquee players, etc) is much better than ECU's.

Good luck in the AAC. I'm sure you guys will be mediocre there, too.
