Additional question from stats -- How much has been invested by UAB in FB facilities since the 2006 renovations of Bell to improve physical development of UAB FB players? How does this compare to the investment other C-USA teams have made over the same 7 years? (BTW, How do the UAB investments since 2006 compare to those of USA, Troy & Jax State)

Go ask someone who knows. No one here knows and are sick of your questions

another question about stats…what percentage of BamaNBlazerFan's posts are relevant to the topic?

RE: More football stats now that year 2 is over - the_blazerman - 12-02-2013 08:20 PM

Callaway had to build a foundation & did a pretty good job of cleaning up some stuff, however it didn't relate to W's.

McGee may be in a process of getting his players into the system and trying to work with the existing players who weren't recruited to be a part of his system.

It will be interesting to see what he does over the next few weeks in regards to staff changes as well as recruiting.

I think we should know by the middle of next year if we are finally heading in the right direction.

If we are not, I still think he will have at least through year 4 to make progress.

Zero, and it somehow always relates back to George Wallace standing on the schoolhouse steps.

Thats if the the contract at Lesion Field is renewed before 2014.
If not he will be remembered as the coach who ended UAB football.

You forgot about funding for education and how poorly teachers are paid.

You really need to stop it.

I don't think we are that bad, since there are seven 1-loss teams and two winless teams. But we probably are bottom ten.

Isn't McGee supposed to be good at offense? Obviously our defense is our biggest problem, but the offense could help them out by staying on the field a little more. Two straight years, I've had dreams of 30 ppg seasons. I'm done expecting that from McGee until he shows me that he can do it.

RE: More football stats now that year 2 is over - Shrack - 12-03-2013 08:14 PM

I just think it is insane that McGee's defenses have allowed more than 40 points per game in both seasons he has been here. Watson mostly averaged 15ppg allowed to 31ppg allowed in his seasons here, with most being in the mid to low 20s.

2006 Watson when he got fired (3-9):
Points Scored: 18.75 ppg
Points Allowed: 24.75 ppg allowed
Margin: -6 ppg

2011 Callaway when he got fired (3-9)
Points Scored: 20.2 ppg
Points Allowed: 36.75 ppg allowed
Margin: - 16.55 ppg
*played 3 ranked teams in 2010

2009 Callaway's best season (5-7):
Points Scored: 27.75 ppg
Points Allowed: 32.3 ppg allowed
Margin: -4.58 ppg

2010 Callaway (4-8):
Points Scored: 26.33 ppg
Points Allowed: 31.58 ppg allowed
Margin: -5.25 ppg

Out defense is AWFUL.
BUT...your statistics need to keep in mind that scoring has increased across the nation for the last 7 or 8 years (note, I didn't actually look up the stats, but I think that's true)

That having been said, I agree that our defense is as bad as it's ever been

The 2nd half of the USM game was filled with mind-boggling ineptness.........I thought the Memphis game last year had to be the absolute low point, but I was wrong. Offenses probably are scoring more.......better rushing attacks lately too (or so it seems).

RE: More football stats now that year 2 is over - Shrack - 12-03-2013 08:38 PM

Well I agree teams are scoring more points now, but it hasn't been that crazy of a change since Callaway was fired in 2011 to have our defense actually get worse in 2012 and then again get way worse in 2013 (especially with the easiest SOS we have ever had in 10+ years)

Yep, it was a weak arse schedule. That's one reason why quite a few people, even people that predict bowl pairings, had UAB projected as a bowl team before the season started.

Because our offensive line was pretty much destroyed.

also it is worth mentioning that callaway had less scholarships. Didnt have a full scholarship team until 2010. AND CUSA was much harder.

RE: More football stats now that year 2 is over - BAMANBLAZERFAN - 12-04-2013 01:42 AM

Part of the increase in scoring across the nation is the felt need to look good for ratings. And there is less stigma to "running up scores" as USM did to UAB as the game ended. 78-24 or similar blowout scores are now accepted since some coaches have said "It's our responsibility to hold their scores down, not theirs". We may be entering an era in football when a 50+ point margin of victory is a necessity to keep players happy and recruits interested.
