Team Hurt Most by Bama Losing - jaminandjachin - 11-30-2013 08:13 PM

Clemson. I see no way the Orange Bowl passes on them.

It may not be as bad if OSU continues to win but if Mich St beats them, a Bama-OSU Orange Bowl may be too good to pass up.

OB gets two picks if FSU goes to the championship game. NOrmally they would have selected Clemson and someone else. Now with Bama losing, I assume the OB would pick Bama first. Their second choice is going to be interesting. What happens if Mich St beats OSU. Now OSU can be selected too. Will the OB pass on Ohio State to select Clemson........

orange bowl would take Clemson first would rose bowl take bama over Michigan state and upset there partner going forward the big ten?

I could see Clemson vs Alabama in orange bowl

if Michigan state beats ohio state the sec will get a team in championship with bama taken as replacement for them

RE: Team Hurt Most by Bama Losing - Marge Schott - 11-30-2013 09:23 PM

If Ohio State beats Michigan State, would this not likely happen?

Orange: Clemson vs Alabama
Sugar: Auburn/Missouri/South Carolina vs Central Florida
Fiesta: Oklahoma State vs Northern Illinois
Rose: Ohio State vs Arizona State/Stanford

-----------

Don't think Michigan State would be taken over Clemson if they lose to Ohio State. Don't think the Big 12 gets a second team. Don't think a west coast 2-or-more loss school from the Pac 12 would be selected over a 2-loss Clemson.

You're assuming Clemson wins tonight. That is presently not the case.

I said "2-loss Clemson" to take into account a possible Clemson loss tonight. Looks to me like Clemson may win this game.

Down a TD ... and just turned the ball over with less than 9 minutes.

Dabo is no genius. He is a product of a bad conference and a down UGAg team and Les Miles handing him one courtesy of The Hat's School of Clock Mismanagement. Spurrier owns him just as much as Richt owns The Hill.

RE: Team Hurt Most by Bama Losing - georgia_tech_swagger - 11-30-2013 10:15 PM

Yet another Clemson turnover. Punt returner ran 6 or 7 yards without tucking the damn ball away. How can your starting punt returner NOT secure the football? That is coaching.

RE: Team Hurt Most by Bama Losing - georgia_tech_swagger - 11-30-2013 10:17 PM

Game over. Chickens cash in on the punt returner's stupdity. And now it looks like a blowout in the box score.

Assuming OSU and FSU win in the CCGs, the order of selection would be:

1. Orange
2. Rose
3. Orange
4. Sugar
5. Fiesta

The Orange may be wise to pick Bama with the first pick, since the Rose could be tempted to take them ahead of Michigan St. Clemson should still be available at 3, since the only scenario in which they wouldn't be is if the Rose took them, which would certainly be fine.

It depends on who is in the National Championship game. Per the BCS website:

3. If a bowl loses a host team to the NCG, then such bowl shall select a replacement team from among the automatic-qualifying teams and the at-large teams before any other selections are made. If two bowls lose host teams to the NCG, each bowl will get a replacement pick before any other selections are made. In such case, the bowl losing the No. 1 team gets the first replacement pick, and the bowl losing the No. 2 team gets the second replacement pick. If the Rose Bowl loses both the Big Ten and Pac-12 champions to the NCG, it will receive two replacement picks.

A bowl choosing a replacement team may not select:

A. A team in the NCG, or

B. The host team for another BCS Bowl;

Further, when two bowls lose host teams, the bowl losing the No. 1 team may not select a replacement team from the same conference as the No. 2 team, unless the bowl losing the No. 2 team consents.

If Auburn makes the national championship game as the No. 2 team, then the Orange Bowl would not be permitted to select Alabama without the Sugar Bowl's permission. There is no way the Sugar bowl will consent to that so Bama will be 100% in New Orleans. The Orange could pick Ohio State as a replacement though assuming Michigan St gets the Rose Bowl pick.

If Ohio State makes the national championship game as the No. 2 team, then the Orange Bowl could select Alabama as an at-large pick without any issues. Of course, they couldn't take Ohio State as their second pick since the Buckeyes would be in the title game.

The only way an Ohio State-Alabama matchup could happen is if the following where to happen:
a) FSU makes the National title game as the #1 overall pick
b) The SEC does not put a team in the national championship. This makes Alabama and at-large team with no strings attached.
c) Michigan St beats Ohio St in B10CG and takes the Rose Bowl slot. This makes Ohio St an at-large team with no strings attached.
d) FSU plays either a Big 12 team or PAC 12 team in the National Title game and the Fiesta or Rose passes Ohio St and Alabama as replacement picks.

So after today we're all in agreement Duke's going to the Orange Bowl right?

Only if they beat FSU in the ACCCG.

RE: Team Hurt Most by Bama Losing - TexanMark - 12-01-2013 02:54 PM

The ACC helped the Orange Bowl survive as a relevant bowl...it will be rewarded with Clemson.

If Michigan State wins, then the winner of the SEC CCG is likely in the national championship game with the Sugar Bowl retaining the rights on a second SEC team. The Orange can (likely) only get Bama if it's FSU vs. OSU for the MNC Game.

What, when the playoffs start? Does anybody actually think the Orange Bowl wouldn't have been part of the rotation? The ACC helped tarnish the luster of the Orange Bowl and now people are claiming that a weakened Orange Bowl owes its survival to the ACC. Funny.
