What does look good for ECU in all of this is that they stand to be VERY important to any other conference looking to try and maintain itself in Division 4.

I disagree with most that there will be rules governing a minimum attendance to be maintained for individual schools. I think it would be instated pertaining to the overall average attendance of the entire conference. That means ECU and it's impressive attendance ratings will be very valuable to whatever "Gatekeeper" conference(s) make it to Division IV.

ECU will not be left out but at this point I am very skeptical of SEC membership. Sorry guys, personally I was pulling for you guys through the entire realignment process.

There's a couple different Big12 scenarios going around right now. Which one are you talking about? Texas leaving Who will the SEC take, OU and WVU leaving ECU out in the dust? I could see the potential for that.

ECU's best chance at SEC is if no other Major Conference poachings happen, including the dissolution idea for the Big 12.

That is when schools like ECU could slip in so that the conferences can make it to 16 teams. If they all cleanly make it to 16 with the Big 12 breaking up then programs like ECU will have to situate themselves in whatever conference(s) are able to make the grade for Division 4.

Could ECU parlay an undefeated season to a P5 invite like TCU and Utah have done in recent years? maybe big 12 for WVU travel partner, then SEC if they go to 16?

If we end up with five major conferences at the end of all this then perhaps. If we move to four then it becomes much less likely in my personal estimation.

Agreed. ECU needs there to be a P5. A P4 will require such a parting or marginal value teams that there won't be room for any conference to even consider ECU.

Pirates should win 10+ this season with one of the most experienced teams in the country and being the defending east division co-champs.

That would at least be a step in the right direction particularly considering that 2 of the 3 ACC match-ups are on the road (VT, @ UNC, & @ NCSU). Games against Tulsa & @ Marshall late in the season will not be easy either.

Pulling off a Utah-Boise-TCU-Cincy type run in football for several years is by far the best way for ECU to get a sniff, for sure.

ECU is currently ranked 37th in latest coaches poll with only 6 votes. Haven't played anybody yet but if we beat VT at home this weekend we should get a little attention. If we follow that up with a win @ UNC then we may be top 20. Our best hope to get into a P5 conference is to make a national splash for multiple years in a row so we need to start now.

I really feel that we have played way below our potential & I think we should put together a complete game vs VT. Our QB Shane Carden is something special.

The schedule lines up nicely.

What do you guys think about our chances of running the table or losing just one?

I could easily see y'all beating VT

Right, if ECU can score. That VT defense is no joke... their offense is, though.

RE: ECU and the SEC - ncbeta - 09-09-2013 02:39 PM

VT really has me worried. Two of our main linebackers are out, but of their O is that bad then that should be the least of my worries.

I KNOW our offense is good. I know we can put up a fair amount of points on anybody as long as our OL holds together to give Shane Carden time to throw. If our receivers can get open I'm calling for some pretty sweet catches during the game.

The main issue I have is VT knows our passing offense (though we are balancing out a little) and knows how to shut down the pass. We have a good RB in cooper and others show promise, but if their D is good I don't see how our OL is going to open running lanes for them. The OL is what i feel is our biggest weakness right now.

ECU has moved up a a dozen spots to #181 in the latest USNEWS college rankings. Now only 31 spots behind Ole Miss.

That's at least a step in the right direction. Many believe that increasing our academic prowess is our best hope for achieving another conference status upgrade in the near future. Beating everyone on this year's schedule wouldn't hurt either.

It does seem that ECU's stock is rising quickly right now. Lots of new facilities, better recruiting in both football & basketball, better quality on the field/court product, rising academic ranking, strong fan support, and even new football unis!

Oh, we can score but this could be also be an ugly type of game. Both sides play bad and then BOOM a big play out of nowhere. That's just the VT series for us both. I'm just glad it's at home. If our D can contain Logan's running I think we've got this.

Very well done by ECU on the academic ranking. Keep it up!

RE: ECU and the SEC - ncbeta - 09-10-2013 11:54 AM

Very exciting to see the new rankings come out. Our acceptance rate dropped significantly (while increasing the freshman class size)... if we can get a couple of wave's of alumni through here we may see some serious academic improvement.

A lot will change in ten years. Some marquee programs will fall off the grid and schools like ECU and UCF will be prizes. The commentator stated Saturday that UCF had the second largest enrollment behind AZ State if I heard right. (The swimming pool is a few feet from the TV. 03-lmfao
