At this point, who knows what to think. The position of the Mannings according to Chris Mortensen is that if the Chargers draft Eli, he will not sign and will sit out the 2004 season and wait until the 2005 draft. I think this is a bad move. The Mannings need to understand that this has blown up in their face, and Eli sitting out could ruin his career. Yes, the Chargers organization sucks, but the purpose of the draft is to try to improve one's football team. I know that it worked for John Elway, but I just don't like this right now.

My position on ESPN stands by the way. They are gloating in this because it's a Manning and he played at Ole Miss. They love anything they can get their hands on that is related to Ole Miss and negative.

If Eli is in fact drafted byt he Chargers, he needs to sit down and think...and think hard.

Wiz, should Eli go and play for S.D. now, he'd face an uphill battle because he's lost alot of respect in the NFL. A hotshot QB coming in with the first overall pick has much to prove without all this gerrymandering. Daddy Manning should have handled this better, or, this could be a pre-draft ploy to force S.D. to trade the #1 pick.

I don't trust the media on this. We'll find out whats up tomorrow.

if i where a betting man...i would lay money that this is a set up. These things just dont happen...the mannings are smarter than your average bear and there is a plan and a purpose for the way that this thing is happening. At least thats my two cents...

I agree Dio. At this point, the Charger fans don't want any part of him. I haven't been to their message boards yet, but I can only imagine what that's like right now. Archie definitely could have handled this better. I just hate the fact that what is supposed to be the happiest day for a football player is becoming a nightmare for Eli.

We shall see tomorrow.

wonderful point. The Mannings aren't a dumb family....even though this looks as retarded as everything at the moment. I'm sure that there was some point to what was said/done. I hope that it turns out well. Also, someone told me that Eli made a statement saying that he would go wherever he wanted and that it was solely his decision. Does anyone know anything about that??

I heard that he made the statement that,"He was a grown man and would ultimately make his own decision."

I still say Archie will have input...

I hate to hear or see the "negative" talk but what should we expect? Chris Berman and a few other knowledgable guys on ESPN were very complimentary of Eli and said nothing negative about any of the Mannings.

I know one thing, Peyton didn't throw for 5,000 yards the last few years just because it says Manning on the back of his jersey. He did because of God given talent. Face it, it's in their blood.

And, outstanding work ethic. I was amazed at how much smarter Eli got in the offseason, and it showed last season. He will frustrate some teams in the NFL wish his knowledge of clock management.
