Well, it's rare that JMU gets any coverage in the Richmond Times Dispatch, but we did today.

A real football player, Troy Polamalu, got tackled in a gruesome way like that a few years back. He had the dignity and self respect to not whine about it. Then again, dignity and self respect aren't things I generally attribute to Richmond football players.

If you have long hair, you leave yourself open to this. Deal with it. He banded his hair up after that, which is what he should do anyway. You never know when it's going to get caught in pads or a helmet (or grabbed) which is going to be very painful. Put it up, chop it off, or don't whine about it when you get pulled down by it. If the guy has hair that hangs all the way down his back and covers the entire back of his jersey, it's a disadvantage to the opponents if they can't grab it. It's not unfair for defenders to grab it. Either disallow long hair or allow it to be pulled.

One of the things I like about Rocco as a coach is he tells it like it is. He suggested to Green to get a haircut. Put the blame where it lies.

I didn't realize that Rocco had said this kind of stuff. I heard him on the 950 AM interview and after the game and I told my wife that I was pretty impressed with his demeanor (I had never heard him previously). Maybe I need to take that back.
