Rice vs. FAU Game Thread - Caelligh - 09-28-2013 04:57 PM

I know it's 1.5 hours until the game, but I'm ready for football!

Incredibly useful facts:
  • LBJ, as POTUS, declared FAU open in 1964 according to FAU's web site, so there is a TX connection.
  • FAU's Boca Raton campus is an official burrowing owl sanctuary.
  • FAU opened on September 8, 1964, which makes the university a Virgo. As such, we can expect their football team to be industrious and methodical. The team might be a bit repressed, too, but we probably shouldn't bring that up when they're around. If I were on the Rice coaching staff, I would tell the team to focus on FAU's hypochondriac tendencies and try to exploit that on the field.

Other important point...FAU ranked #108 out of 123 FBS teams in rushing defense. I know Ross is game decision and expect DB to get him ready for Tulsa but Petersen and Dillard should pile-up some yards tonight. Also expect to see McH and DJ both rack-up some stats running the ball....FWIW, Horns are #120 out of 123 in that category...Ouch.

McH hasn't really done any running since the first couple drives vs. A&M...I know we're worried about him staying healthy, but that's a big weapon for him

Anyone know if he's slated to start today? I was under the impression that he was too banged up..

Late arriving crowd - if we start winning maybe they'll get here by late November.

I can't imagine this not being the worst crowd in HRS history. Still gotta win it, though. Go, Owls!

Is this on Owlvision or are those of us who don't have this random channel screwed?

RE: Rice vs. FAU Game Thread - Caelligh - 09-28-2013 06:16 PM

Let's go, Rice D! 2nd and 16.

ETA: FAU makes questionable throws, too.

ETA Part 2: Let's go, Rice O!

ETA Part 3: First down for Rice. Very close to crossing the 50-yard line.

ETA Part 4: rice (n.) mid-13c., from Old French ris, from Italian riso, from Latin oriza, from Greek oryza "rice," via an Indo-Iranian language (cf. Pashto vriže, Old Persian brizi), ultimately from Sanskrit vrihi-s "rice." The Greek word is the ultimate source of all European words (Welsh reis, German reis, Lithuanian rysai, Serbo-Croatian riza, Polish ryż, etc.). Introduced 1647 in the Carolinas. Rice paper (1822), originally used in China, Japan, etc., is made from straw of rice. <--etymonline.com

ETA Part 5: Go Vriže!

ETA Part 6: The ref who just announced the holding call has a good voice. He should be on the radio.

Davis looks quick and strong, should be a good one. Can see why they burned the shirt.
