The debate is more who are the relevant MWC teams and what combination would work the best more than the general idea of a 6th conference. You might but we've discussed this many times before and the AAC+ some MWC schools is where this conversation always ends up. Do other schools deserve a look yes? Overall is the P6 topic worth the time of debate, no not until more concrete information comes out or at least some new articles. I just want to first see the response. Every other group moves down a letter. RE: if i had to pick the g5 schools most likely to get into d4...... - adcorbett - 09-11-2013 03:10 PM The "Best Chance" would be a 12-14 league with all of the best total brands available. And by total brands, it does not have to be just football. Essentially a mishmash of the AAC, MWC, Independents, and even the MAC. However it would have to be limited to 12-14 (although I can see the argument of 16 teams and pods) to make it work. Too bloated and it dies. i.e. no merging of the two leagues. As to how to make that work for other sports, well there are ways to do it, that don't require a lengthy discussion. But this would require leaving some people behind. SMU for example has 2 schools that it has played a total of 50, 2 more at 70 or more, and another 2 at 90 or more games with. plus another at 49 games. of those 7 combined schools six are p5 schools. csu- 7 different teams with >50 games played utah st. 4 different teams with a series lasting longer than 60 games played wyoming 5 different teams with a series lasting longer than 60 games played with another team at 50+ games cincy has ohio at 50 games, LV at 52 games & miami at 117. after that they dont have anything else higher than the mid 30s are you starting to see the picture here...... it has nothing to do with school has X games played with another school....they are better. it has to do with which schools can use their ties with other schools to leverage a way in. because realignment is just as much about politics as it is about whose the better program RE: if i had to pick the g5 schools most likely to get into d4...... - blunderbuss - 09-11-2013 03:54 PM (09-11-2013 02:46 PM)john01992 Wrote:(09-11-2013 02:42 PM)bctn8n Wrote:(09-11-2013 02:42 PM)john01992 Wrote:(09-11-2013 02:40 PM)curtis0620 Wrote: Cincinnati? We have played A&M 31 times starting in 1952 but not once since the SWC. We have played Baylor 27 times since 1950 but not once since the SWC. We have played Texas Tech 30 times. We have played Texas 23 times. We have played TCU 25 times. Oklahoma State 19 times and on and on. We have only had a program since 1946. The "rivalry" argument while something I have not seen before has no basis in fact. |
