Excellent. Thanks for posting. One of the best I've read in a long time about Tiger football.

Excellent, excellent article. Touches on some things in a more in-depth way than I've seen.

Hearing Fuente talk at length about intangible, mental things makes me understand just how much he's the right guy for the job. I'm not sure how many people could've come in and had as deep and perfect an understanding of our situation.

Excellent hire. After reading that, I've got more confidence in that even than before.

Frank Murtaugh can write.

Sure is nice worrying about who the 4th corner or safety is verusus previous years wondering if we had decent starters.

Good thing we don't play UAB this year....

(Okay, now who got that?)

RE: "Crouching Tigers" - from The Memphis Flyer... - covingtontiger - 08-29-2013 08:25 AM

After hearing Coach Fuente for a year now, I am convinced that he will do great things here. He will eventually win big at Memphis and will get opportunities to move to a much higher level job. I am 100% in support of him doing just that.

If he gets that next opportunity, it will mean that Memphis football has had a lot of success. When is the last time we had a coach move up to a bigger coaching job? Long ago.

I like everything I hear from the coaches and players these days and I liked what I saw on the field at the end of last season. I'm not sure that this season will be our breakout year. It might be, but we are fighting an uphill battle to improve the team while taking a big step up in competition in this new conference. I'll be happy to see continued improvement on the field and to see us be competitive in each game.

I think the fact that JF is starting a freshman QB over Karam tells us all we need to know about this season. They are getting ready for 2014.

Certainly not in my lifetime. That's crazy to think about... but I was born in 1980 and it hasn't happened (to my knowledge/recollection) even once for a head coach.

Disagree.

Fuente is trying to win, period. With the upgrade in competition, he knows he can't afford to take a step back, especially when he's preaching about the creation of a winning culture.

I don't think it's naive to believe that he thinks Lynch gives us the better chance to win. Now I could buy that he's starting him Game 1 to get him ready for conference play... but if he's not getting the job done, he will get the hook.

Utter nonsense.

Anybody that says anything about Lynch starting is for anything other than winning this season, either doesn't know a thing about football or thinks their intelligence is so much higher than our head coach's, they should be the one calling the shots.

It is about as uninformed statement as you can make.

picked that up in the MEM airport yesterday - really great read - Flyer is the best, and it's free

Pancoast was the last one and even his wasn't much of a move up.

He's also a heckuva softball coach.

ummm no. They think Lynch is better than Karam.

There was no mention of Chase Rome as being a contributor on the DL. I assume it's because of all the experience we have coming back, but I was hoping he would make a significant impact in fall camp.

Great article. CJF is the real deal.

Seriously, how would you know any different? Unless you are in the coaches meetings every day. It was just an opinion based on Karam’s play last year. Don't get so upset. It’s a sports forum; people will have different views from time to time.

Consider this. What if last year's starting center in basketball was 6-6 and did a decent job. This year you have 6-10 big body that is better suited to play that position. What would you do?

Lynch is the big bodied big armed QB with speed that Fuente's system looks for. We have to stretch the field.
