Ian Fisher suspended - JMad03 - 08-20-2013 02:36 PM

Per Stoss via twitter

"Mickey says TE Ian Fisher has been suspended indefinitely for a "violation of team policy" Wouldn't say anything other than that."

Also said he wasn't expected to play much, but not good to lose another TE, especially being thin at that area.

Also saw that Lukas O'Connor(QB) has been practicing at WR.

Agree with your point, JMAD03, but I also agree with MM, even not knowing what happened. As Barney Fife stated, "ya got to nip it, nip it in the bud. I tell ya, Andy, ya got to nip it in the bud."

Wasn't questioning MM's decision at all and totally agree. Just stinks that it couldn't be at a position we had more depth in.

I knew you were not questioning him. I tried to figure out a way to write my thoughts without you thinking that. I was with you, just trying to take your thoughts a little further.

Yea, but where's that? Do we have good depth anywhere these days? Geeez.

Gotcha. I think the bolding thing threw me off haha. I understand now. :)

Never heard any problems about Fisher in the past and wonder what exactly it was that got him booted off the team.

Stoss, get us an answer, I know you read these boards.

Harrisonburg is soooooooooooo boring in the summer, I'm sure he got super super bored and did something he was supposed to.

Well, technically he's just suspended. That's not to say he might not get booted off in the coming days. I think that's the way it went with the two corners. How many scholarships are we wasting now?

Re: Ian Fisher suspended - JMad03 - 08-20-2013 06:01 PM

Was Thorpe's suspension an indefinite as well?

RE: Ian Fisher suspended - 84Breeze - 08-20-2013 06:16 PM

I was going to ask about him since I did not see him on the current roster. His size would be nice at TE.

RE: Ian Fisher suspended - JMUDUKE9 - 08-20-2013 08:41 PM

Wasn't he lauded as a "high character" guy when we got him? Yes, I know everyone makes mistakes, but I recall reading how excited he was to play QB (at the time) for us. I thought I also recall it being said he was a team first type player.

RE: Ian Fisher suspended - DoubleDDuke - 08-20-2013 08:43 PM

He was the only one who knew he wasn't going to play QB. I don't know what he did. Hopefully something correctable like he showed up to a couple meetings late or something but the fact that the suspension is indefinite makes me doubt that.

Such a shame. Yeah, he is a "high character" guy. I followed Ian from his junior year in high school. He was soooooooooooo in love with JMU. But seeing what happened to fellow Maryland quarterback, Billy Cosh, I disagreed with the fit. He is a classic pocket-passer, not the MM profile. I think Fisher could be a good quarterback somewhere, but there was never a doubt in my mind that it would never be JMU. I think Mickey and staff really did this kid wrong bringing him on board. They knew from the outset he would never see a snap under center. It kinda' pisses me off. Why waste the scholly? Why waste the kid's college football career at an unnatural position?

RE: Ian Fisher suspended - Longhorn - 08-21-2013 07:12 AM

Let's see what happens as things unfold before we throw Ian or MM under the bus. Ian is just a RFr, and has a full 4 years of eligibility left, so this suspension may turn out to be just a little bump in the road in his JMU football career.

Also, Ian is what, 19 years old? Young people are going to make mistakes, and the coaching staff will properly exercise control over his participation on the team if Ian's actions violated established rules.

Whether Ian is disappointed over a shift in position isn't the question here, it's more about Ian's actions and attitude moving forward. Ian can still make a valued contribution to the JMU FB team if he can refocus and do what's necessary to get reinstated. Here's wishing the young man all the best in his effort to do so.

Huh???

Ian came into JMU as a QB. Ian was playing QB all last summer as I remember. However, after summer practice, he didn't cut it as a QB so Mickey and his staff moved him to a position that 1) JMU lacked depth and 2) Ian had been recruited at as well.

How is moving Ian to TE Mickey's "fault?" He had his shot at QB and didn't make it. Whats wrong with that?

RE: Ian Fisher suspended - bridgeforthduke - 08-21-2013 07:36 AM

I agree with Dolley.

And Birdsong is considered a pocket passer. That hasn't hurt him staying in the QB position at JMU.

I absolutely agree. Also, I made a mistake my freshman year that might have issued an indefinite suspension and I was never one to get in trouble in my youth. I'm certain this is the case.

RE: Ian Fisher suspended - DooX - 08-21-2013 10:53 AM

Man, seems like our QB position is cursed right now. Feels like it's gone sideways for just about everyone that's been brought in as a potential QB. Even though he's changing positions, it still wasn't enough to overcome 'the curse'.

RE: Ian Fisher suspended - mistrhanky - 08-21-2013 11:21 AM

The number of guys that come in at one position and then play another is endless. It is just how it goes. I remember Russ Grimm speaking at his HOF induction. He was a linebacker in high school, and the first day of practice at Pitt(I think) they handed him a number that started with a 7. He told the coaches their had been a mistake. They told him their was no mistake, now go line up. And, that was how he became a guard.

His point was, you are recruited to be a football player, not a position.
