In case you want to chime in here,

on the realignment board,

"X or Cincy?
History goes to Cincy but recent Tourney Success and Attendance leans to Xavier.

Which BB program in SW Ohio is the Alpha Dog?"

lol... I think they got tired of beating each other up over who owns NYC (Rutgers, Syracuse, UConn or Johnnies).

Call me when Jesuit Tech reaches a Final Four, much less wins a couple national championships.

Seriously? Those people have such an inferiority complex. When they do something that matters wake me back up.

In fairness to Xavier, the post was not started by one of their fans and for that matter no XU fan has chimed in.

From my years living outside Cincinnati I have gleaned that outsiders don't understand the dynamics locally between the two schools and the community. Many look at the attendance of XU games and look at our attendance and wrongly assume Xavier moves the needle as much as we do. They don't see all the other issues that has caused our attendance to wane over the years (Huggs fiasco, arena, etc) or that they have basically had their glory years of late.

Well said. UC fans also make spending decisions with a BCS conference champion football program in mind. Football season tickets, road trips and bowl trips impact basketball attendance/spending to some degree. When you're a one trick pony, it's either b-ball @ Cintas or stay home. Once you get past their season ticket base and small student body I think their support around town is very shallow. I agree with an earlier poster about the scant crowd on Fountain Square for their Big East celebration. Also, minuscule licensed merchandise revenue is another measure of their lack of brand awareness locally and nationally. And of course history--UC remains an all-time elite program by most outside observers compared with a mid-major program that has enjoyed tourney success in recent years, though never a Final Four.

I'm originally from outside Cincinnati. Many of those I talk to do not know where x is located and the ones that do see them as this tiny school. They are a cute story when they do something in the tournament. Not going back to the 60's - at least UC has made a Final Four and multiple Great 8's in my lifetime.
