The MVP for Alabama this offseason has definitely been Johnny Manziel. I bet Saban is loving that no one is spending this month before the season over-hyping his team or breaking down his players. AJ McCarron has suddenly turned into a saint, and much of the population will be looking for ways to compliment him when compared to Johnny.

And even without the soap opera in College Station, you know Nick Saban is busy working on the game plan for A&M. A&M may be in a world of trouble when they take the field against Alabama in September.

But, before you put too much confidence in Nick's abilities remember one thing. All of Nick's defenses are predicated on not putting a man on the quarterback. That's why they smother all other forms of offense. In Saban's coaching history the teams he has always had trouble handling have been the ones that had duel threat quarterbacks. The L.S.U. games he lost were against the better running and passing quarterbacks, he struggled a bit last year with a much weaker Ole Miss team, and lost to Cam Newton in most un-Nick like ways.
It doesn't mean his system has a flaw, it just means if a team has receivers with good hands, and a decent offensive line with a quarterback equally able to run or throw he has to call exactly the right defensive play to stop them. When you consider the very few teams that have that combination of sustainable talent you begin to understand how and why he has been so successful.
The weakness, and reason A&M loses to Alabama this year, is their loss of most of their experience on the offensive line. It was a really bad year for Manziel to paint the bullseye on his back. He's talented enough they will finish 3rd in the West, but he isn't going to have the support staff he had last year and he will get hit a lot more often.

Good points, JR. One of the main reasons that TAMU did so well last year is indeed because that O-line gave Johnny enough time to improvise and give receivers that extra time to separate.
