Very good breakdown, pretty spot on actually IMO. I think we should be solid at D-Line even with Progar and Alan gone. The guys stepping in are pass rush specialists probably more than the two departed. I'm not saying they are better because they aren't, but Rainey and Windsor are pass rushers were Progar and Baxter were more complete. Expect a lot of guys rotating at DE if O'Neal isn't suspended. I'm expecting an undefeated or 1 loss season, because I don't think any team we play is better than us or has more talent as starters, that includes the BigTen teams. To me, I'd be disappointed if we didn't win a 3rd straight MACC.

Are Wells and Loos off the team according to CFN, they aren't on the depth chart. Those seem like pretty major players to overlook.

I didn't hear about the O'Neal suspension, is it grades? He is a big key

Loos and Wells are still on the team, not sure about why they aren't on the depth chart. As for O'Neal since he had grade issues last year was my reference. He's extremely athletic and could have a BIG year, just has to have his head on straight.

Oh ok I hope he is back because he is desperately needed for depth issues.

They are projecting Deuce Turner as a CB instead of a RB. Unless Jordan Huff really is the real deal, I think it would be a waste to have Turner play CB. His highlight tape was unlike any I've ever seen before. The way he runs and how fast he hits the hole is incredible. I think Turner can be the next Dri Archer type guy.

RE: 2013 CFN Preview - clcfball11 - 07-23-2013 10:51 AM

Whoa. Deuce Turner at corner? What?

Feel like we would have heard more about a position change from arguably the best recruit the program's ever had, ratings and offers wise. I say keep the kid on offense.

RE: 2013 CFN Preview - thxjoenovak - 07-23-2013 11:01 AM

Quote:Aregeros Turner. The true freshman could turn out to be a speedy receiver or quick running back prospect, but he projects to be a terrific corner with great hands and nice speed. The 5-11, 170-pounder could be a shutdown defensive back with a little bit of time.

Hmmm...CFN did not consult with me....

I've got Turner as a standout RB in Fall Camp, RC burns the red-shirt and "The Burner II" helps lead us to an Opening Day victory in Iowa City.

What's up with the negative on putting a superrior athlete on defense? It's much more difficult to find skilled defensive players in college (especially mid majors) than it is offensive. I would have no problem playing Turner at DB if the coaches think he can handle it. I have high hopes for Perez Ford as well.

For the record, I think Turner will play offense.

3-19 vrs BCS ...we aint anywhere near where we want or think we are.

tell me about the RB running backs referenced?
Most of our key MAC opponents have better ones...

Running backs do not matter in this offense, and that's coming from somebody who loves Akeem.

I think next year they will. Once JL is gone this offense will need a rusher who has big play abilities.

It's not like Jas was a beast. Give me a dude who isn't a moron and can block a little and I'm good.

Yeah but we had Harnish. Like I said earlier, if Huff is the real deal than great, but if the team doesn't have a good running back and the offense is struggling to move the ball, it could be a waste to have Deuce on defense.

RE: 2013 CFN Preview - 7 - 07-23-2013 01:20 PM

And if they suck on defense it would be a waste having him on offense.

RE: 2013 CFN Preview - timxlydon - 07-23-2013 01:27 PM

I guess I would just rather have a better offense than a better defense. Hopefully they solve our issue by recruiting someone even better than him.

RE: 2013 CFN Preview - niucyberdawg - 07-23-2013 01:36 PM

having the ability to run the ball effectively forces the D to cover the entire field every down.

How many coaches regardless of who they are and who play say : stop the run and run the football to win...

yep. a spread offense in which the QB runs the football alot...like did jordan last year...and i will be surprised in 2013 if JL does not hand the ball off more and pass more and run a bit less himself...

Spread the Word.

A spread where the pass is an extension of the run game. Those old football phrases don't hold as much water in this current era.
