Stephens Hospitalized - Da.Owl - 07-14-2013 07:13 AM

Jordan tweeted he's in a hospital and may have gall bladder removed.

Good luck and a safe recovery.

I second that. Hope everything goes as smoothly as it can.

At least the timing's good. Hope for a speedy recovery.

Get well soon.

I saw his tweets and wondered what happened. He apparently went to an emergency med site during the day and then wound up hospitalized that evening.

They took his gall bladder. Seems awful young for GB trouble.

I was thinking the same thing.
The good thing is that if it was done laparoscopically (like 98% are) his down time will be short. 3 weeks or so for someone like him who's in great physical shape.

Yeah, and it's not like he needed to work this Summer. His arm can use the rest after throwing 100+ innings. BTW, he's out of surgery...

...too bad this happened in California, away from his home and friends (save for his Santa Barbara Rice mates-- Hoelscher, Fox and Kopycinski).

I had laparoscopic cholecsystecomy when I was 49. Granted, I wasn't pitching, just office and yard work. I took three days off work and since it was in March I really didn't miss any yard work. The doc gave me a prescription for hydrocodone and I think I used three of them. The rest of them sat in the bottle until they expired.

Why? California doctors are the best.

I've seen kids as young as 16 have their gallbladder removed. I've seen people return to work in 1 day after a laparoscopic cholecystectomy. The general rule is unlimited activity within 2 weeks.

Like others, I wish him well and a speedy recovery.

I've been gall bladder free for a couple years now. As I recall, I had the procedure on a Friday, went home that day, and had the weekend to recover. I ended up taking one more day off that Monday, since I was still pretty sore, but I could really have gone back to work by then.

Of course, sitting in front of a computer in an office is pretty different from playing baseball. But it is possible to bounce back very quickly from a laparoscopic procedure.
