In reality, it's more of a Fox Sports move as opposed to a move by either the Big East or ACC. I'm sure the Big East and ACC had some input in signing off on the deal, but Fox ultimately had the control and relationship with Fox. Note that the Big Ten Network is 51% owned by Fox, so part of the value proposition of the BTN in the NYC market is also to bundle that with YES.

-So, the ACC sold all of its games to ESPN
-ESPN, by contract, sells the ones it doesn't want to show to Raycom
-Raycom sells some of the games to Fox, who probably wants to show them on the regional networks they own like SportsSouth, Sun Sports.
-Fox buys 49% of another regional network, the YES network.
-Since the YES network has nothing to show when there isn't a baseball game, Fox wants to show the ACC games they bought on that regional network as well. Since they are only minority owners, that requires a deal be cut between Fox and Yes.
Already, people are chiming in on what a brilliant move this is BY THE ACC, and it is only a matter of time before someone insinuates that this will make the individual schools more money.

ACC games are already distributed across the US with the Raycom deal. So evidently there are people everywhere willing to watch.
There are also games left that go to ESPN3 each year so I don't think there would be a big deal getting some back for a network. The ACC has two more football and three more basketball teams now than they had before. Right now Raycom Sports is the defacto ACC channel. In the future there will still be inventory for them to show.

Right. I think that this is not a step in the direction of an ACC Network. However, supposedly the terms of the ACC GOR include a $2M/yr/school bump if no ACC Network.

Why did you leave the Big East out of the title and your comment? I mean it's right there in the tweet, the Big East will also be shown.
Because it's bigger news about the ACC, which has never previously enjoyed any real presence in NYC. It also is an indication that an ACC Network may not be coming to pass. The Big East already enjoys a noticeable presence in NYC and that will likely continue. Don't feel slighted.
