"Let's be real -- Southern Mississippi brings no more sexy to FIU fans than Arkansas State. The only way Rice draws at Camp Mitch is with Chicken as a travel partner. To Marshall’s “We…Are…Marshall!” FIU could give a sullen “We…Are…Ambivalent.” "

UAB - Because they get to have a cool name like “Blazers,” while
FIU’s perfectly cool original nickname “Sunblazers” got ditched for the dumb, pedestrian “Golden Panthers” now shortened to the even-more pedestrian “Panthers.”

Charlotte - The tobacco industry. Duke Energy (nee Duke Power). All the money injected into that state from the nefarious actions of those two industries and you really need more reasons to despise anything from North Carolina?

LaTech - Lose a Jonesboro, Ark., gain a Ruston, La.

Marshall - They snatched quarterback Rakeem Cato from FIU’s clutches. They beat FIU in the 2011 Beef O’Brady’s Bowl.

ODU - That name. First, it’s a nickname for Virginia used by a British king. Second, the school’s kind of fronting by using it. The name makes the school sound like some extremely old 13 Colonies Era institution when it’s really a William & Mary spinoff that didn’t award its first degree until 1956.

Rice - Their enrollment doesn’t exceed G. Holmes Braddock High and even the school tools haven’t seen anything under an A since explaining spitwad physics in first grade. So losing to them brings on a true inferiority complex.

S. Miss - Look at the first alum you’ve heard of. (Brett Favre)

UTEP - Because that Miners’ Pickaxe hand signal looks more like a person with arthritis trying to do the Hook ‘Em, Horns gesture.

UTSA - Former University of Miami football coach Larry Coker wound up there.

Blogger trying to be funny, but just being...well...rude and obnoxious. I would suggest we all not brand FIU with negatives because of this guy.

I would agree. He seems like their version of Chuck Landon. Still yet some of the crap he writes make me think he believes that FIU is above all the schools in the CUSA or at least the ones listed.

Doesn't bother me one bit. One of our fan blogs did a series a few years ago leading up to games entitled "Why we hate ________". It was for the most part tongue-in-cheek (we had a lack of real hate-filled rivals in the A10) and humorous to everybody but the fans of the schools we hated, who would stumble upon it and somehow think it was truthful and serious.

Except my guest column, "Why I Hate George Washington University". I meant that, every word.

I'd list reasons to hate FIU, but I honestly don't even care that they exist.

Does this guy ride a horse? If so, I have a suggestion for him.

1)FIU has double the losses than they do have wins: overall record 42-88

2)FIU avg wins per season: 2.2

3)I have some clothes older than FIU football

4)FIU football is 20 years old and has 2 winning seasons

5)FIUs stadium looks like a soccer stadium

Marshall didn't steal Rakeem Cato. Tommy Shuler convinced Cato that Marshall was a better situation. With Cato's numbers so far he was right. He thinks we beat them in the 2011 BOB, whats he going to think once Nov 23rd is over with.

This guy is worse than Chuck "Done Deal" Landon.

Much to do about pretty much nothing. He certainly knows where FIU is in the grand scheme of things, and he knows FIU isn't "above all the schools in C-USA". He is certainly not a "homer" writer for FIU, nor a FIU grad. Just a writer trying to be funny while bringing up some interesting facts (and yes, it includes positives as well) about the teams FIU will see in our new conference, and while a small portion of his blog (which is what you quoted) might be seen to some as a shot to some of our new conference mates, I see it more as a mild shot towards FIU. Nothing more and nothing less.

FIU football is 11 yrs old not 20. Anyways, I'm not going to defend this guy because he also slams on FIU every chance he gets. He's not your typical beat writer. He never attended FIU and has no ties to the school. He's usually negative about everything.

All 40 people who went to FIU games last year got a real kick out of that.

LOL I thought it was hilarious. It's obviously tongue in cheek y'all, no need to get your panties in a wad. FWIW, I'm pretty sure most FIU fans dislike this writer anyways.
Though I did enjoy ECUGrad07's commentary to the article.

From the author's bio:

"Since coming to The Herald in 1989, David Neal has covered shootings, domestic violence, labor strife which is to say he covered high school sports and Florida International sports for three and a half seasons, the Florida Panthers for 11 seasons, the NFL/Miami Dolphins for four seasons"

He doesn't know football.. Apparently he's never heard of Ray Guy or Reggie Collier either. Douche.

Notice I'm calling him one, not FIU.

RE: David J. Neil of the Miami Herald gives reasons why FIU should hate conference mates - Whiteboard3 - 07-09-2013 01:27 PM

He said nothing about hating Charlotte. Just the entire state. I hate most of this state. Can't fault him.

Wow that's a shame.. For the most part I like Carolina.
