It's great news that de Alfredo is playing at such a high level. To be able to make Spain's U20 team before her freshman year says a lot.

RE: Trio of Women's Basketball Players Compete on World Stages - Dwight - 07-04-2013 09:42 AM

Spain beat Poland today 60-29. Zanoguerra played 24 minutes and had 8 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals. De Alfredo played 22 minutes and had 2 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 assists.

Noteworthy that they got very similar playing time.

Spain crushed Greece 75-49. Inma had 12 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals in 22 minutes. De Alfredo had 10 points, 2 rebounds, and 1 steal in 19 minutes. The round-robin portion of the tournament is complete, and Spain will move on. The limited playing time for the two Rockets almost certainly was due to the blowout and the fact that Spain had clinched advancement with its win yesterday over the Slovak Republic.

I have not seen de Alfredo play, but judging by her statistics she seems to be more of a scorer than a playmaker. I think she now has a total of three assists in three games.

I wonder if Spain's 6-5 center Astor Ndour has any aspirations of playing in America. She was born in Senegal but is a Spanish citizen and is just 18 years old. She is averaging 20 ppg and 9.5 rebounds in this present series of games. I think she'd look very good in Midnight Blue and Gold.

Spain won 83-72 over Belarus in a game that was closer than that until the final few minutes. Zanoguera had 15 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal, and 1 blocked shot in 37 minutes. De Alfredo had 14 points and 4 rebounds in 21 minutes.

De Alfredo still not getting many assists for a guard

Could it be that she is a shooting guard?

Don't they have a tighter definition of "assist" than we do in college and NBA? I seem to remember that from somewhere but haven't been able to confirm it with an internet search.

Maybe but Inma has a lot more assists then her so it is not just a tighter definition ie above Inma had 4 and she had 0

RE: Trio of Women's Basketball Players Compete on World Stages - utrocks84 - 07-09-2013 07:08 AM

Maybe Inma has the ball in her hands more...like Lebron James. I think you also have to consider the offense they run. maybe, the point guard doesn't distribute the ball, but scores if open. Who knows, if she can play at this level, this well, i don't care if she has 0 assists and 0 turnovers.

It would be nice to see some assists from De Alfredo, but it is nice to know that an incoming Freshman is scoring in double digits in the European championships.

RE: Trio of Women's Basketball Players Compete on World Stages - H2Oville Rocket - 07-09-2013 10:04 AM

We're OK at the point this year and I suspect DeAlfredo will be fine after she gets the system we use. Spain is winning and she's contributing so we look to have a winner.

RE: Trio of Women's Basketball Players Compete on World Stages - bcunn3128 - 07-09-2013 11:28 AM

I agree with H2O...DeAlfredo shouldn't have to start at the "traditional" PG spot next season, as I see Dola returning to that role much as she did during Naama's medical redshirt year. Right now, her scorer's "mentality", pretty good FT % and Courtney Ingersoll-like 3-point shooting mean more to me for next season than whether or not she has 5+ assists a game...now, the season AFTER that, then yes, I think her distribution skills will need to be more of a factor...

RE: Trio of Women's Basketball Players Compete on World Stages - Dwight - 07-09-2013 02:03 PM

In a surprisingly easy 71-46 rout of Serbia, Zanoguera had 14 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals in 22 minutes. De Alfredo had 7 points and 1 rebound in 16 minutes.
