One whole scholarship? Man, Oregon got totally screwed here. Cannot believe that the NCAA would be so harsh...

Blatantly utilize a pay for players system.

Go to 4 straight BCS bowls.

Lose one scholarship.

The NCAA is garbage.

So which non-BCS gets the death penalty?

Idaho could use a good, swift kick in the rear.

I realize there's not a ton of sympathy for USC, but the contrast in penalties between them and other recent cases is ridiculous.

At this level, we have to accept that most have cheated, do cheat, and will continue to cheat without remorse or fear of punishment. That is the way it is, because that is the system that we have allowed to become entrenched.

Recognize? Maybe

Accept? Absolutely not!

This is only my opinion, but I'd happily accept a sub-500 program if it meant we avoided all the pay-for-play, academic fraud (see UNC), sex scandals, etc. at other programs. It would of course be nice to have a winning AND a clean program, but if forced to choose between the two I'd take the clean one any day of the week. I also think it's much easier to guarantee a clean program than a winning one.

We do have a clean program without the aforementioned. We are also (in FB and MBB) a sub 0.500 program. And no one is happy.

The first is much more important than the second, however I do not believe that the two are mutually independent. 2003 Baseball is testament to that.

When we were up in Eugene for the Regional Tournament, we couldn't help but notice that both the local Mercedes dealer and the local BMW dealer were located on the access road to the football stadium, right next to it. "How convenient," our thoughts went.

Read a story today about Aaron Hernandez. Seems like he had some criminal issues while at Florida. His Defense Attorney was nicknamed the "Unofficial Defensive Coordinator" of the Univ of Florida Football Team.

All for the $ in Satan's Evil Conference

...and this is why Mark Emmert doesn't consider Rice to be a "mainstream" Division 1 school. There are only about 5-10 others (depending on where you draw the line) that are similar to Rice in this regard.

I'm not sure whether or not that's a good thing for Rice athletics, but it's who you are - and there is no point running from it anymore.

You've been labeled by the powers that be for a LONG time now.

Right on cue:

http://www.cnn.com/2013/06/29/us/tennessee-vanderbilt-football-probe/index.html?hpt=hp_t2

"Four Vanderbilt University football players were dismissed from the team and suspended from the school as sex crime detectives look into an alleged incident in a dormitory, the college and police said Saturday."

"Last season, Vanderbilt finished 9-4 for its best record since 1915 when it was 9-1."

Some poor walk on is going to be really pissed about losing that scholarship!! Poor Oregon, you'd think Nike's $$$ would have gotten them off without any penalties. What has the world come to???

NCAA = JOKE
