Elon to CAA - jmu7396 - 05-23-2013 01:42 PM

Elon University annouced they are joining the CAA in the 2014-15 season.

RE: Elon to CAA - Potomac - 05-23-2013 01:54 PM

JMU is 2-0 vs. Elon all-time. Both games were in Harrisonburg.
1998 19-12 W
2001 42-21 W

JMU has never played 2013 newcomers Albany or Stony Brook before. IMO, Elon is the "best" of the three CAA football additions so far.

Football Newcomer Attendance Averages 2011/2012:
Elon - 8,624
Stony Brook - 5,700
Albany - 3,966

Meh.

RE: Elon to CAA - JMU2004 - 05-23-2013 02:01 PM

Albany fans are saying that Albany has declined membership in the CAA

RE: Elon to CAA - BDKJMU - 05-23-2013 02:03 PM

My girlfriend graduated from Elon.

Course if JMU makes a move up announcement this yr, may not even get to play them...

RE: Elon to CAA - South Main - 05-23-2013 02:04 PM

It would be cool if they changed their name back to Fighting Christians.. then I'd be all for this move

RE: Elon to CAA - JMad03 - 05-23-2013 02:08 PM

Good move for the CAA, not so much for JMU.
Their football program has improved over the years, but think it'll be fighting for the middle of the pack in the CAA at best.

We seriously need to get out... now.

RE: Elon to CAA - South Carolina Duke - 05-23-2013 02:13 PM

+1

RE: Elon to CAA - Dukeman - 05-23-2013 02:34 PM

This is great news for JMU, another football peer and we can likely avoid a trip to Albany NY so we save money as well.

The CAA will survive and thrive with JMU's leadership

RE: Elon to CAA - Dukes84 - 05-23-2013 02:54 PM

Plus I've heard that Elon is loaded with foreign players.

RE: Elon to CAA - BleedingPurple - 05-23-2013 03:09 PM

I simply cannot help but think about what our players and future players are thinking. If they take one look at next years schedule (and kids have a hard time thinking beyond a year) then if they take a look at who the new members to the CAA are going to be, they've got to be saying to themselves, "small time."

The only way to sell them, is get something announced soon, saying we are going FBS. Our recruiting will drop like a rock if we continue with the CAA or wait much past July to make an announcement of a pending move. You think the last few years have been mediocre, just wait...

That's a depressing thought.

Please move FBS now 03-banghead.

Bourne: 04-chairshot move stat.

RE: Elon to CAA - Purplehazed - 05-23-2013 03:52 PM

I for one am pumped about Elon joining the CAA. I said to my crew last year on a drive to see the GMU basketball game, "ya all know what, the only thing that could make me feel better about JMU sports is trading GMU for Elon." Who woulda known?

Why? what's changed so drastically? ODU left, so that's a 2 year "rivalry gone. App we've played what, twice as well? We haven't played real GSU in how long?

so ODU left, all else for football remains essentially the same and suddenly our recruiting is going to "drop like a rock"? Seems at times some of you are actually hoping for that...

Plus, I thought one of the benefits of waiting was to have an extra year to recruit FBS. If we're moving up, the recruits we talk to will be more interested in the FBS move up then Elon.

If we're not moving up, we'll still be one of the premier FCS teams, so I don't think the recruiting will drop that much.

Elon backwards spells Nole! Elon also wears maroon and gold (I think). So if I drink a whole lot of 100 proof purple Kool-Aid and squint my eyes just right, I can pretend we're competing against Florida State, right? Right?

Haha good one. So we're grabbing Elon from the SoCon for Football and CoC
from the SoCon for Basketball. Elon is good academically, no?

If we were trading Richmond for Elon it would be a good move, as they strike me as very similar schools. Unfortunately, we're replacing all of the VA schools that left with a small private school that no one is going to care about at all. Although, I hear they've got a very nice campus and a solid dance program.
