Actually, the real IRS scandal is that the IRS has been used as a weapon to attack conservative and TEA party groups, and just about anyone else who disagrees with the President Obama. Groups favorable to the President get fast-track approval.

The IRS Commisioner, who just got fired one month before he was about to retire, was appointed by Obama. Yet, Obama claims to be completely innocent and ignorant of the conspiracy.

THAT is the scandal.

The tax break for social welfare groups is just an issue. Hardcore leftists (like you-know-who ^) are trying to use the tax break as a red herring to distract people from the real scandal.

It is also only the tip of the iceberg. The EPA, OSCHA, the Department of Labor, SEC, FCC, and HHS have also targeted conservative groups.

For those who get their "news" from John Stewart or the dinosaur media, you may have to wait a couple months to hear about this.

Jon Stewart has ripped into the administration for this. I don't think you realize why he is so great.

This has been going on for years, perpetrated by both parties, so why now is this an issue?...
But this whole "we are gonna get Obama at any cost" sh!t has to stop.. Conservatives are embarrassing themselves right now. These are some I found...sure there are more.

These are apples and oranges.

First, PETA cites no specific arguments, other than they were "told" they were audited because of who they are. That doesn't pass the smell test.

Secondly, the NAACP was investigated based on very specific claims.

Third, Greenpeace was found to have violations.

This current scandal involves groups being treated differently, categorically, based on their perceived social opinions. And, that comes merely from the name of their organization.

The public polling shows that voters think this IS a problem.

Even if one was to accept your "this has been going on for years" statement, you must think it is ok then?

No, this has not been going on for years.

No I dont think its ok.. and in essence it is all the same.. groups with certain political leanings being "scrutinized" by the IRS when the other party is in power.

I think this is one scandal thats its easy to say we can all put politcal leanings aside because it is one of the scariest and apalling scandals I have witnessed in my lifetime. If the accusations are true, people need to go to jail. I pray that noone in the White House knew about this because if anyone in the administration did, they should also go to jail. It never boosts your hope when people are taking the 5th, that usually means there is substance to it. I am not trying to politicize this or on some political witch hunt (can it be called a witchhunt when the witches are pounding on your door?), but there does seem to be a pattern going with this administration and that pattern is abuse of power unlike we have ever seen with the US presidency. What I find hysterical is that if you watch CNN, you wont get one word on this scandal, they will be covering the Moore, OK tornado likely well into the winter season to avoid having to mention this.

I do not know how you can remove the politics from a scandal that was specifically directed toward politics.

The Democrats want you to think they are also outraged by the whole scandal, but I am not convinced. I think they are only mad about getting caught. Democrats are about as mad as the Florida Marlins were after Bartman's interferance may have prevented an out.

CNN needs to be dragged, kicking and screaming, into covering this story. When you have a news network that does not want to cover news, is it any surprise that their viewership is decreasing?

RE: The real IRS scandal - BobL - 05-23-2013 11:55 AM

Jail really??? This is an issue but my god...jail...when you think of all the past scandals, involving the White house.

Did anyone in the White House go to jail over Valerie Plame?
What about the billions in no-bid contracts that went to Halliburton?
Enron? We all know that Cheney had secret meetings with these guys but we were never told about what?
What about the WMD lies told by Bush and his administration.
Iran Contra ended with Oliver North taking the fall for the higher ups in the White House.

Ever since Watergate it seems that everyone looks for scandals. Congress no longer legislates, they try only to oust the opposing party by any means necessary.

Hell Bush was the guy that appointed the IRS chief in power during this time.
A little perspective on the IRS "scandal"

As a matter of fact, Scooter Libby did go to jail over Valerie Plame.

You are trying to draw a false equivolency between your scandals spanning two decades and those of the present administration, which all occurred in a couple months of the election season. Your rationalization boils down to this: You did not like Bush, so Obama gets to do whatever he wants.

I do not imagine you would be so forgiving if the Bush adminsitration was using the IRS to target political enemies in order to swing an election.

The IRS cheif was and still is a Democrat. Bush appointed him to try to reach across the isle to appease Democrats. That was a horrible political strategory. Democrats never happy, and they will stab you in the back as soon as they have a chance.

Isn't it strange that the same people who want to defend the IRS also want more gun control? Hmmmm.

I guess what I mean is that its unfair to blame Republicans for putting a politcal spin on this given the serious nature of what happened.
