She's finally gone. Now what's the next move? - TG4 - 04-16-2013 06:03 AM

Univ. of Memphis President announces retirement

When Lane Rawlins left, they plugged Shirley Raines into the spot. Will the same agenda be carried forward or will Memphis finally attempt to grasp what led to success at Louisville and Cincinnati?

This will be a critical hire for the future of Memphis Athletics to avoid another "Reign of Error".

Well firing your boy Larry Porter was the first step in fixing Memphis football.

I'm sorry but I thought college was primarily an academic institution first.
Priorities can be confusing when you have tunnel vision or a chip on your shoulder.

Your 15 minutes were up a year ago. But since you sought me out [name redacted], why don't you share with these good folks the comments you made to me about Dr. Raines at 8:30am on the Sunday morning Larry was fired. Someone was quite offended that "she didn't advise the sitting President of the Highland Hundred!"

Brad Martin will probably do just fine and is a MAJOR improvement over the last two even if he's interim.

See you in Murfreesboro and please don't leave early if it gets ugly.

You've already played that card before. Get some new material. Just make sure SR reconciles the number of Presidential exemptions she's given Fuente so Mr. Martin doesn't bust the ceiling. You being all concerned with academics and such.

Speaking of folks who need new material, let us know when you get some.

Is it imperative for a university president to have a PHD? Do any of you know of one who does not?

Stay away from some woman named Nancy Zimpher. She's bad news for an athletic program. That is all.

Thanks for the input Huggy Bear. Didn't she oversee your offer and acceptance into the Big East? That is, the real one?

A minimum of a Master's degree is required in order to teach on an adjunct basis. I was asked to teach an entry level Management course at Belmont and I asked the same question. My guess is that since he is an interim President, a PhD or EdD is also not required.

Someone posted an article that more and more univerisites are hiring presidents without PhDs. I think the current % is approximately 20%.

Being that some people want to protect their privacy, let's try not to "out" someone by posting their real name on this board without their consent. I've edited the posts above to remove the names. This will be going to the smack forum now...
