RE: 2013 Big East Football Schedule - bctn8n - 03-06-2013 12:03 PM BIG EAST Announces 2013 Football Schedule PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The race for the 2013 BIG EAST football title will begin Sept. 7 and will culminate in four games as part of Championship Week as the league’s 10 schools battle for the league crown and Bowl Championship Series berth. The complete 40-game schedule includes 40 conference games and a nonleague slate of 40 games. Fifteen of the nonleague games are against conferences or teams with automatic bids to the Bowl Championship Series. The 2013 season begins for BIG EAST teams Thursday, Aug. 29, and continues through three games that will be part of Championship Saturday Dec. 7 on ABC, ESPN or ESPN2. The 40-game conference schedule will kicks off Sept. 7, when Houston plays its first league game at Temple. Highlights of the 2013 schedule include another intriguing series of Thursday and Friday night games that will be televised on ESPN or ESPN2 beginning with Rutgers at Louisville Thursday, Oct. 10 and Temple at Cincinnati Friday, Oct. 11. The BIG EAST will have a regular Friday appearance on ESPN or ESPN2, with five league games appearing on four Fridays between Oct. 11 and Nov. 29. The Championship Week matchups begin with Louisville at Cincinnati Thursday, Dec. 5, in a battle of teams that finished in the top 25 of the final USA Today coaches’ poll last year. The three Saturday games Dec. 7 include UCF at SMU, Memphis at Connecticut and USF at Rutgers. The BIG EAST’s automatic bid to the Bowl Championship Series has been decided in the last week of the season in each of the past four years. Three of the nonconference games will feature opponents ranked in the top 10 of the final 2012 national polls – Temple at No. 4/3 Notre Dame Aug. 31, SMU at No. 5/5 Texas A&M Sept. 21 and No. 8/7 South Carolina at UCF Sept. 28. Since 2006, the BIG EAST ranks third among all Bowl Subdivision conferences in nonleague winning percentage (.701), behind only the SEC (.815) and Big 12 (.741). BIG EAST teams have gone 8-7 all-time in Bowl Championship Series games, including wins in each of the past two seasons. In the BCS era (since 1998), the BIG EAST has amassed the best bowl record of any conference, with a 46-29 record in the postseason. 2013 BIG EAST Football Schedule Notes The 2013 schedule will include 40 games, with 40 BIG EAST dates and 40 nonleague games – all three totals are the highest in league history. The nonleague dates include 31 games against Bowl Subdivision (I-A) programs and nine against Championship Subdivision (I-AA) opponents. Fifteen of the 31 Bowl Subdivision games are against conferences or teams with automatic bids to the Bowl Championship Series. The BIG EAST’s football alignment for 2013 includes UCF, Cincinnati, Connecticut, Houston, Louisville, Memphis, Rutgers, SMU, USF and Temple. Each team will play eight conference games and four nonconference games. The most-represented opposing conferences on the composite schedule are the Big Ten, Conference USA and the Mid-American, with five matchups each. There are four games against the SEC, three against the ACC, two against the Big 12 and Sun Belt and one against the Mountain West. There are four games against independents – one each against Notre Dame, Brigham Young, Army and Idaho. The only Bowl Subdivision conference not represented on the schedule is the Pac-12. 2013 BIG EAST CONFERENCE COMPOSITE FOOTBALL SCHEDULE Thursday, August 29 Akron at UCF Towson at Connecticut Rutgers at Fresno State Friday, August 30 Southern at Houston Texas Tech at SMU (8 p.m., ESPN) Saturday, August 31 Purdue at Cincinnati Ohio at Louisville McNeese State at USF Temple at Notre Dame Saturday, September 7 UCF at Florida International Cincinnati at Illinois Houston at Temple * Eastern Kentucky at Louisville Duke at Memphis Norfolk State at Rutgers Montana State at SMU USF at Michigan State Saturday, September 14 UCF at Penn State Northwestern State at Cincinnati Maryland at Connecticut Louisville at Kentucky Memphis at Middle Tennessee Eastern Michigan at Rutgers Florida Atlantic at USF Fordham at Temple Saturday, September 21 Cincinnati at Miami (Ohio) Michigan at Connecticut Houston at Rice Florida International at Louisville Arkansas State at Memphis Arkansas at Rutgers SMU at Texas A&M Saturday, September 28 South Carolina at UCF Connecticut at Buffalo Houston at Texas-San Antonio SMU at TCU Miami (Fla.) at USF Temple at Idaho Saturday, October 5 UCF at Memphis * Cincinnati at USF * Louisville at Temple * Rutgers at SMU * Thursday, October 10 Rutgers at Louisville * (ESPN) Friday, October 11 Temple at Cincinnati * (ESPN/ESPN2) Saturday, October 12 USF at Connecticut * Memphis at Houston * Friday, October 18 UCF at Louisville * (ESPN/ESPN2) Saturday, October 19 Connecticut at Cincinnati * Brigham Young at Houston SMU at Memphis * Army at Temple Saturday, October 26 Connecticut at UCF * Houston at Rutgers * Louisville at USF * Temple at SMU * Wednesday, October 30 Cincinnati at Memphis * (8 pm, ESPN2) Thursday, October 31 USF at Houston * (ESPN) Saturday, November 2 Temple at Rutgers * Friday, November 8 Louisville at Connecticut * (ESPN/ESPN2) Saturday, November 9 Houston at UCF * SMU at Cincinnati * Tennessee-Martin at Memphis Saturday, November 16 UCF at Temple * Cincinnati at Rutgers * Connecticut at SMU * Houston at Louisville * Memphis at USF * Thursday, November 21 Rutgers at UCF * (ESPN) Saturday, November 23 Cincinnati at Houston * Connecticut at Temple * Memphis at Louisville * SMU at USF * Friday, November 29 USF at UCF * (ABC/ESPN/ESPN2) SMU at Houston * (ABC/ESPN/ESPN2) Saturday, November 30 Rutgers at Connecticut * Temple at Memphis * Thursday, December 5 Louisville at Cincinnati * (7:30 pm, ESPN) Saturday, December 7 UCF at SMU * Memphis at Connecticut * USF at Rutgers * All times Eastern; all dates and times subject to change * BIG EAST Conference game RE: 2013 Big East Football Schedule - CliftonAve - 03-06-2013 12:05 PM We got a Wednesday game against Memphis on 10/30 (only two BE schools to get one). RE: 2013 Big East Football Schedule - Bruce Monnin - 03-06-2013 12:14 PM Hate that Temple game. Friday night games during high school football season is a BAD idea. I will have to miss that game, as will most all potential recruits. RE: 2013 Big East Football Schedule - apoe - 03-06-2013 12:17 PM Obviously love the Louisville game to end the season, even better on a Thursday night. A packed house at Nippert on a week night is a special thing. Don't like Wednesday night but that will be the norm in this conference. If you think about it, aside from Louisville and Rutgers UC has had the best television ratings of any team currently in the conference over the past few years. People will be by-passing Memphis v. SMU on a Wednesday for Top Chef or whatever else is on. RE: 2013 Big East Football Schedule - SuperFlyBCat - 03-06-2013 12:24 PM Yeah that Wed. night game is very MACish. RE: 2013 Big East Football Schedule - CliftonAve - 03-06-2013 12:32 PM The crowd at Memphis could be pretty poor. Realistically Memphis could be 0-6 going into that game. Best case scenario maybe 1-5. Louisville has only 5 road games, and the 2 games prior to Dec 5, are home games. The 2 games prior for UC is @Rutgers and @Houston. Ville has an ideal schedule. |
