Social Blazers Facebook Policy Change - thebernreuter - 03-04-2013 09:59 PM

"Due to a change in Facebook policy we can no longer award points for likes, shares, and checkins."

Foursquare checkins and twitter are still game, and they finally added the YouTube connection.

I picked up my first prize from the marketing department today. Very cool memorabilia in that office. I had never been there. There's a huge Darrell Hackney UAB ad framed on the wall. I kinda want it.

Since you've been to their swag store, do you know if the hat says "Blazer Rewards" on it or if it is plain green with Blaze on it (as shown)?

Sounds like they don't like a few of us racking up the points. I know they have screwed me out of a good bit of em all ready. LOL

Looks like they also stopped the MOTD.

Dang it, my 270,000 point ride was sweet while it lasted. The MOTD has been anything but the MOTD for about 4-5 weeks.

Is it just me or do these type of programs seem to fizzle out just as soon as people start jumping on board? The rewards cards were the same way. Now the Social Blazers is following the same path. Unfortunately, this idea has potential. I have had so many FB friends want to know more, just simply because I was posting everything from Men's basketball to women's tennis and bowling.

RE: Social Blazers Facebook Policy Change - ATTALLABLAZE - 03-05-2013 04:49 PM

Exactly. It's a good thing and they are letting it fizzle out.

What else is new?

RE: Social Blazers Facebook Policy Change - thebernreuter - 03-05-2013 11:37 PM

The "swag store" is some boxes in Brad Smith's office, so I haven't seen the hats. I think the facebook thing was more on facebook's end. I could see incentivizing posting things as being a TOS issue.

There might be a lull in the message of the day stuff, but I like that they added the YouTube functionality, which is a bottomless pit much like twitter in terms of points. Comment comment comment.

I wish there were a way for people with dinosaur phones to get attendance points, besides using a random person's smart phone, but I'll get over it.

RE: Social Blazers Facebook Policy Change - thebernreuter - 03-05-2013 11:59 PM

They contacted me about my prize personally, twice. They talked to me on facebook and via email, and they initiated the contact, so I don't get the impression they are reluctant to give people their stuff or that they are bailing on the program.

So you guys know, the place you pick up the prizes is the Ullman Building, room 136.

RE: Social Blazers Facebook Policy Change - Memphis Blazer - 03-06-2013 12:32 AM

It clearly states that the change is due to Facebook policy, but some wants to blame UAB.

RE: Social Blazers Facebook Policy Change - thebernreuter - 03-06-2013 12:36 AM

This change will affect all the Fanmaker Rewards schools too, or at least it should.

It is disappointing that they aren't more on the ball about the MOTD stuff, but as long as they're doing something productive, I'll let it slide.

If I get to 1,000,000 points, I want that Hackney poster like woah.

RE: Social Blazers Facebook Policy Change - the_blazerman - 03-06-2013 08:11 AM

Facebook is the devil.

RE: Social Blazers Facebook Policy Change - ATTALLABLAZE - 03-06-2013 08:16 AM

So is Foozball.

RE: Social Blazers Facebook Policy Change - BlazerFromMD - 03-06-2013 11:04 AM

The Washington Capitals have just started a Social Rewards program as well.

RE: Social Blazers Facebook Policy Change - thebernreuter - 03-06-2013 12:56 PM

AND guess who posted new MOTDs right on cue! Someone reads this bbs.

RE: Social Blazers Facebook Policy Change - ATTALLABLAZE - 03-06-2013 01:13 PM

And Facebook points work. Lol. Wave to them.

RE: Social Blazers Facebook Policy Change - thebernreuter - 03-06-2013 01:37 PM

I think the MOTD made it through unscathed, but the likes and shares might still be off the table. Really I think the likes were a win-win and completely harmless. The general public doesn't get cluttered with notifications, and it guarantees traffic to your page. And you can get an exact figure on how many new visitors you get via the program as the likes compare to the numbers from a year ago.

RE: Social Blazers Facebook Policy Change - thebernreuter - 03-06-2013 01:38 PM

Scratch that, you're right. I got the points, but there's also a question mark next to it saying I'm not supposed to.

So, they're pick-up only?

That doesn't do me a buttload of good.

No, you can have them mailed to you. It just costs you some extra points for shipping and handling.

I think I'm pretty good at this program, but you are doubling me up in the last 7 days alone! Props.
