OT: Yippee-ki-yay, UAB!! - blazr - 03-01-2013 10:26 AM

Re-colonization will be official tonight. Specific number of colony members will be announced in an official capacity somehow, I'm sure, but it's a number of points any FBS team ranked better than #100 nationally in defense should always turn into a win (unfortunately, that's a threshold that we Blazer fans have a familiarity with).

Could we have the English translation please?

RE: OT: Yippee-ki-yay, UAB!! - UABslant - 03-01-2013 11:32 AM

blazr's old fraternity will live once again at UAB, with the initial number of members in the teens or twenties.

Thanks.

Reminds me of the Sanford & Son part where Smitty has to translate what Hoppy says.

He's a white dude.

My fraternity, Theta Chi, was re-installed back in early December and is going strong I'm happy to say.

UAB is working really hard to get the old chapters back up and running. Best of luck to ATO going forward.

We need the Greek system strong and involved!

That part you mistranslated.

Coherent organizations like the "Greek" groups can be are very critical to the campus based life style UAB wants to foster. Down at Bama when I was there (1960-1963), they acted as a force for division between those who were the social elite on campus (they ran the S.G.A., had all the exclusive "good parties" and even tried to regulate who could date whom) and the regular "GDI" students. If this kind of outlook can be avoided at UAB, they can be a very valuable centerpiece in the mosaic of campus life. It will be determined by how well the "Greeks" adapt to the greater diversity of present day UAB and provide a "salad bowl" membership reflective of UAB's student population. Division or unity is the choice that will lead to failure or success for "Greeks" @ UAB.

The Batman/Robin pic is me and another brother doing our part for UAB Student Life (they were showing the first movie w/ Robin - don't remember the name - when they used to do free movies in the UAB Transportation parking lot and the crowds were mostly kids).

They need to get some more sororities on campus. 6 fraternities now, 4 sororities.

I was at UAB '93 to '96, and worked/lived in the area for awhile after and remembered you guys with those movies. Small world...

Thats a small number for a school as big as UAB.

Most students who come to UAB aren't very traditional, so getting them to rush can be difficult. Personally I'm surprised that they're expanding when some other chapters are struggling. Back when I was active we got down to 4 chapters on campus.

Is that including NPHC and Multicultural?

Does that number include the Pan Helanic organizations, "black" greek fraternities and sorrorities, as well.

And to speak on what bamablazerfan said as far as intergration of fraternities and sorrorities, let it hang on the organizations. I had a friend at uat that spoke on it. The greek organizations at uat around 96-2002 were asked to intergrate but all the organizations except the prodominantly white ones were pressured by the administration.

Personally, If the organizations only want thier "own kind" so be it. It's not like the rest of the students at the school don't see it. I know while I was at UAB, I saw 1 black dude in ATO around 96 to 2001. I saw white, asian, others in a few of the black fraternities and sorrorities. with that all being said...greeks live and die by how they interact with other students. Like Atracts Like
