That's an unfortunate situation. He decided during the season last year (or before the season), when Ashlee was in remission, that he was going to forgo his final year of eligibility. Now, it comes back. He absolutely chose the right path to take. Sure, UT could use him on the field next year, but he has waaayyy more important things to tend to.

He red-shirted his first year (2009) so he is finished. This is his 4th year in school and he graduates in May.
