Wednesday Night Fights: Memphis @ ECU - PirateTreasureNC - 01-30-2013 12:55 AM

It will be interesting to see how ECU responds from the UTEP heartbreaker.

Lots of charged emotions could get us going either way.

Is Sampson a go or no go?

RE: Wednesday Night Fights: Memphis @ ECU - UofMemphis - 01-30-2013 01:14 AM

ECU will be down a player in shamarr bowden due to suspension...it will be interesting to see if Memphis can take advantage of ECUs short bench and try to wear them down with depth and athleticism.

RE: Wednesday Night Fights: Memphis @ ECU - JMSTiger - 01-30-2013 01:16 AM

It will also be interesting to see how Memphis responds. Since the one point win over Marshall all we have heard in the local sports media and among many of our fans is that our coach and team are frauds because we struggle to win games that many think we should win by 30 and we have no top 50 RPI wins.

What about Sampson? Why is everyone so secretive about his injury. If he is out, I think ECU will be in serious trouble. He nearly averages a double double.

Lebo told the The Daily Reflector in Greenville that Sampson is doubtful for Wednesday's game.

I know some get sick of me throwing some history in these type discussions, but I can't help it.

Memphis leads the all-time series against ECU 13-1.

Memphis is 6-1 against ECU in Minges. Of the six wins, only one was under a ten point margin of victory. That was way back during the 2004-05 season when Memphis won by 6.

The one win by ECU in the series occurred on 03-02-11. The Pirates and Tigers were tied at the half, 28-28. ECU took control in the second half and won by 11.

Thanks! I guess it would help if I checked the website of my local rag.

I don't really see us keeping this one close without 2 of our top 5 minutes/game players. A couple of guys would need to have career nights.

Memphis is one of those top teams that we can use to judge our growth in basketball play. It will be a bigger challenge tonight without a full roster. i just hope we get a full invite to BE so ECU can recruit better players to go with out new outstanding coach and $18M basketball building complex. All championship go throught Memphis so ECU will have to bring its A game.

History will have absolutely nothing to do with the outcome of the game, talent will. The Tigers by 7.

Bowdens absence hurts some, but Sampson's is a killer. We don't have enough inside depth without him and Armstrong fouls out of almost every game so as good as he's been playing it is hard to count on him.

RE: Wednesday Night Fights: Memphis @ ECU - PirateMarv - 01-30-2013 09:28 AM

Sampson not playing will be tough, but ECU still has some big guys on the bench (Zangari and Kolo) that should be able to eat some minutes and do a little rebounding.

With Bowden being out; Memphis needs to watch out for Akeem Richmond. That guy is almost certainly going to have the greenlight tonight with so many folks being out.

HUGE game at the mid-point of the C-USA schedule. We win we jump from 6th to tied for 5th BUT if we lose we could drop down to 8th if the expected results happen. (Would've been 9th but we hold the tie-breaker against Houston)

ECU would be in 4th place if a guy doesn't hit a lucky 40 footer.

I'm trying to figure out whether or not to pull for ECU, just to put Memphis 1 game back of us.. or if to pull for Memphis to try to make that upcoming game more meaningful (providing USM wins our next two on the road)

RE: Wednesday Night Fights: Memphis @ ECU - nastybunch - 01-30-2013 11:15 AM

Gotta pull for ECU....

RE: Wednesday Night Fights: Memphis @ ECU - BeliefBlazer - 01-30-2013 11:16 AM

Memphis wins this one easily. 12 of their wins this year have been by double digits, so a one point win against Marshall shouldn't be concerning.
