Tulane football attendance..... - EagleRockCafe - 01-29-2013 09:38 AM

From an article about residents not being happy with the new Tulane stadium from last Sunday....

"The Hullabaloo, the school's student newspaper, reported in November that during the past five seasons -- from 2008 through the Green Wave's Oct. 13 game against SMU -- turnstile attendance for Tulane games at the Superdome averaged only 5,485, with the count for some games dropping below 2,500."

Sounds like it reinforces their need for a smaller stadium.

Sound like nobody gives a crap about Tulane football to me.

People show up when you win. It's that simple.

the super dome is a great venue if you are from out of town, and visiting for a bowl game. you check into your hotel, roll around bourbon street for a couple of days, go to your game, stagger back to bourbon street, and crawl back to your hotel. if you are lucky, you get back with everything you left with, but nothing nothing extra that you didn't buy -- or at least intend to.

but I can see how it would be a pain in the a$$ if you are a local, and an even bigger pain the a$$ if you are a student.

attendance can't help but go up once they get their stadium built.

Good for Tulane on the new stadium. Way past due. You'll get more casual students to attend games now.

Why beat up the retard? Why tear down Tulane? This is old news. And they got into the Big East before us. Quit being bitter.

Maybe they'll let us desecrate their new little stadium some day soon. No need to rub their nose in their crappy support.

What do Tulane, Miami, ans SMU all have in common?

Three private schools in pro sports towns with below average attendance. I think they all get their share of students from the northeast (I know when friends of mine were at Tulane that was the case) which seems to be an area of the country less interested in college football.

What a thread. Nice.
We draw when we win. Always have.

that comment was uncalled for. miami drew fantastic crowds when they recruited from the broward county jail. but then the NCAA passed that horrible restriction that prohibited bail from being counted as a recruiting expense, and that was that.

An on campus stadium can only help with this. In the past, I always looked at this as a home game for us with benefits...lol...kinda like this thread

4 winning seasons in the last 31 years. So you have only drawn for 4 of the last 31 years?

19,371(Navy)
32,527(Southern Miss)
26,217(Louisville)
25,177(SW Louisiana)
26,978(Houston)
37,391(La Tech)

Average Attendance 27,944

These are Tulane's attendance numbers during their undefeated season in 1998. Much better than 2,500, but still sad for an undefeated team with a huge population. You'll also notice that many of the higher attended games are against regional teams that brought a good crew.

Please don't argue "win and they'll come" when you win, and they still don't come.

To their credit, we usually only bring about 6-8k (we should do better but we po). Shaun King was pretty damn good and we were the only team to be held to single digits that year by them (everyone else scored 20 or more). Granted, it is isolated, but they did draw over 52k in the Liberty bowl that year (against BYU).

I personally would love to see Tulane resurrect its football program...would love to go OOC with them and go back to the good 'ole days....when we whoooped 'em (most of the time)...lmfao

Oh hey look, USM fans with inferiority complexes bringing up an already beaten to death problem for our football team. Moving on...

RE: Tulane football attendance..... - USM@FTL - 01-29-2013 11:54 AM

No kidding JD. Surprised they didn't bring up the rest of the conference's attendance issues, like UAB's, Memphis', or Rice. Just bitter.

RE: Tulane football attendance..... - ATTALLABLAZE - 01-29-2013 11:56 AM

Bitter.

You win you draw. Simple as that. Tulane will be more than fine with a new coach and a new OCS. Miami isnt winning and plays 20 miles from campus. SMU isnt winning either. Any of those programs start winning 9 or 10 games a year and all that changes.
