Temple and SMU - Nellie - 01-18-2013 10:12 AM

Looks like those 2 will be replacing Boise and SD St on the Football schedule...also, no UCF game now.

W/new Big East schedule, instead of playing Boise & SDSU, UL plays Temple & UH; Cincinnati plays SMU & Temple

Big East's new 8-game sked teams that won't play each other in '13: UCF/Cincy; UConn/UH; UL/SMU; UM/RU; USF/TU

McMurphy's tweets don't make any sense. If UC isn't playing UCF, they have to play SMU, Houston, and Temple. I would like to see the actual schedule release from the conference today.

From a competitive stadpoint, playing those schools will be more favorable to us than playing UCF (who will likely be one of the top 4 teams in the league).

RE: Temple and SMU - bearcatlawjd - 01-18-2013 10:28 AM

UC picks up Houston too.

If UCF is going to be top 4 in the league its better to play them. Beating great to good competition is better than bottom feeders.

Instead of playing Boise & SDSU, TU plays Cincy & UL; SMU plays RU & Cincy; UM plays UCF & UConn; UH plays UL & Cincy

SMU should be solid next year. They had some really odd games this past year, losing to Tulane but then beat CUSA champion Tulsa. They then went on to absolutely destroy Fresno St. (who had a nice season BTW) in their bowl game. Not sure if their QB Gilbert, the transfer from Texas who played in the NC game when McCoy went down, is back next season though. But certainly SMU and Temple are a step down competitively from SDSU/Boise. And I can't figure out how no longer playing UCF makes sense.

He'll be back. They also return their leading rusher and one of their top receivers. They were a very young squad last year (their leading rusher was a freshman). Their biggest issues last year was turnovers and a pourous defense. Gilbert threw as many TDs as interceptions and their defense allowed over 400 yards of offense a game.

Hasn't been announced but here is how it shapes up:

Home- Purdue, Northwestern State, Houston, Louisville, Temple*, UConn*,
Road- Miami, Illinois, SMU, Rutgers*, USF*, Memphis

* assuming the alternating home/away schedule remains unchanged.

RE: Temple and SMU - Bearcats#1 - 01-19-2013 12:25 AM

well...SMU is a heck of a lot better than another FCS team.

RE: Temple and SMU - Bearcat_Bounce - 01-19-2013 03:13 PM

Lost 3 of the top teams in the league (UCF, SDSU and Boise St) and replaced them with SMU, UH and Temple? 03-puke
