Wed, Jan 9th - Teams to root for concerning the Tiger's RPI - memphis mania - 01-09-2013 12:33 PM

Wednesday is always a big night for college basketball. So to make it a little more interesting here is a list of teams to root for that benefit's the Tiger's RPI.

First and foremost of course:
7:00 - 63 Memphis vs. 196 East Carolina
(number beside team - RPI ranking)

CST
6:00 - 33 VCU vs. 85 Dayton
6:00 - 174 Ohio vs. 223 Buffalo
6:00 - 9 Louisville @ 51 Seton Hall
7:00 - 99 N. Iowa vs. 120 Evansville
7:00 - 338 Austin Peay vs. 190 Moorehead State
7:00 - 79 TN vs. 68 Ole Miss
8:00 - 8 Minnesota @ 10 Illinois

Teams we play twice in conference:
6:00 - 261 Marshall vs. 105 Tulsa
7:00 - 54 S. Miss @ 332 Rice
(we also play UAB and UCF twice, but they cancel each other out since they are playing against one another tonight)

The game that may be the most interesting to watch could be Minnesota @ Illinois. Out of the list of teams, Minnesota would benefit the most with a win since they are playing @10th rpi ranked Illinois.

No matter how high our RPI goes we will need to have a very strong, loss free end to the season to get a preferred seed. We will not have any top 25 RPI wins and that will hurt...Only argument we can hope to present to get a better seed is we have improved and you can't argue that if you lose. We lost late last year...To a horrible team AT HOME

Yep, that UTEP loss at home was the difference in an 8 seed and a 7 or even maybe a 6. One goal that we should hit is to go undefeated at home.

I'm not rooting for Louisville

At least we don't have any bad losses. If the Tigers don't lose any C-USA games outside of @ UTEP or maybe @ USM and win their last two non-conference games, maybe a #6 or #7 seed is still a possibility.

If they would have beaten UTEP by at least 10 points like they should have...It could have really strengthened the argument that this was a much improved team...They would have beaten their last 11 by at least double digits...

Ifs and buts were candy and nuts...

So far it's 3-0 on the night for the Tiger's opponents. VCU, Ohio and Louisville have all won.

It's always good when they lose, but it doesn't help our cause when our best win is against a bad team...

A little of both.

It's possible. Even the Tigers have been known to do it a time or two.

Northern Iowa comes up short, and TN loses. VCU, Louisville, Ohio, Marshall, S.Miss, and Austin Peay all win. This puts us at 6-2 on the night. Barring a comeback from Illinois it looks like Minnesota will win that one away. Great RPI win for Minnesota. That will put the Tiger's opponents at 7-2 for the night. A very good night for RPI purposes.
