Kevin Sumlin IS REAL - PirateTreasureNC - 01-05-2013 12:46 AM

WOW. Himself and Johnny Football just took it up the arse of OU...WOW.

RE: Kevin Sumlin IS REAL - GrayBeard - 01-05-2013 01:00 AM

Sumlin may be the best coach in college football.

RE: Kevin Sumlin IS REAL - Attackcoog - 01-05-2013 01:29 AM

There is no doubt in my mind that we would not have been 5-7 with Sumlin at the helm. Really sucked to lose him. I thought he would eventually do well at A&M--but I had no idea the turn around would be this quick. He deserves the credit. Now it will be interesting to watch how Kliff does at Tech.

No doubt he is a good coach but he will not have a QB like Manziel every year. Time will tell but one thing is for sure, Manziel is a very special player. I do give credit to Sumlin and his staff for building an offense that takes full advantage of Manziel's abilities.

He could bail "with health issues" after his star player leaves like another SEC coach we knew. 05-stirthepot

Now let's see if Sumlin can ever win a conference title and not blow a shot at it by losing conference games at exactly the wrong time to the wrong teams.

He is 1-0 this year against the teams playing Monday night, which while irrelevant, is still interesting.

It's hard to tell who the best coach in the nation is with such a widespread difference in talent, but there's no reason to assume the best coach is coaching in the MNC game.

This info was posted on the North Texas fan board. Let's hope #15 works out for UNT. At least he gives fans hope.

Rivals 2011 Dual Thread QB List

12 - Marcus Mariota - Leader of high powered Oregon offense
14 - Johnny Manziel - A&M, need I say anything else?
15 - Brock Berglund - UNT
16 - Everett Golson - Notre Dame starting QB in BCS Title Game

RE: Kevin Sumlin IS REAL - DrBox - 01-05-2013 10:43 AM

He'll be in the NFL in a few years.

IMO, that is what makes a good coach...utilizing what you have, not what you want to have....hence EJ failure vs Sumlin success (unfair comparison, but you should get the point)

Exactly my point...I would love to have him as the coach of my team any day of the week but at some point he has to win a championship (conference or national) to validate him being one of the top level coaches in the country. Even with that, as we have seen, it does not mean long term success.

RE: Kevin Sumlin IS REAL - SMUmustangs - 01-05-2013 11:26 AM

Not so fast. Time will tell how real he is. He has been extremely fortunate to have the benfit of two great QB's fall in his lap. Most coaches would win with Keenum and Manziel.

Not saying he is not a good coach, but the jury is still out on being a great coach.

PS..OU was highly overated.

RE: Kevin Sumlin IS REAL - C2__ - 01-05-2013 11:27 AM

Forget a national one, how about just a conference championship?

A&M just moved to the 'best' conference and beat Bama and smoked OU....maybe I give him props early, but it is believing that makes winners....as a HC in today's game, IMO, it is all about belief....maybe Manziel tanks next year....if I am a top notch program, I roll the dice with SUM_HIM.

...that is just raw jealousy....how many USM fans came with Fedora hate AFTER the fact...and the ones that came with beforehand should be shunned with the exception of the Hawaii bowl selection...none of us are upper tier and I challenge anyone to not promote their own best interest....really, give me a fkn break....Fedora is a proimoter as is SUM_WIN

.....and I am from Missippy and white

RE: Kevin Sumlin IS REAL - C2__ - 01-05-2013 12:25 PM

Raw jealousy? I was talking about the post two posts up about him need a championship to validate himself, which he does in a sense. If anything it's hard feelings for how he went behind our back to strike a deal in the lead up to our biggest game in two decades.

And it has [insert BOSSMAN joke] to do with Southern Miss.

Like I said...I would love to have him as a coach of my team. My point was that I think he still has some things to prove before I would consider him the best or one of the best coaches in college football. There are several guys out there who have won more and won championships that I would put ahead of him at this point....but no doubt if he continues to have the success he had this season he is well on his way to doing some very special things at TAMU.

RAW jealousy...again...then reply to apropos post...either way it applies...how about this?? UH could gain championship how? You had a great coach and should be happy to have said w/Keenun
