Brohm Takes Pay Cut to got to WKU

I'll say it again... He's going to WKU looking to get hired away later by someone who is hiring Bobby Petrino's OC and QB coach. Remember how it made us feel hopeful that we had made a good hire when we did that?

So he gives up some on the front end looking toward the payoff later.

That is him making the assumption though that the BP at WKU will be as productive as the BP at Arkansas or Louisville.

Worse case would be BP heading elsewhere & him taking over as HC at WKU.

He knows petrino will not be at wku more than two years and he wants the job

Just trying to "read between the lines" I got the impression that Brohm believes Petrino will rise above the nonBCS level in a few years and take his most trusted assistants with him.(A "rising tide raises all boats" kind of thing). One never really knows about the assertion of "returning to my Kentucky roots" kind of thing, but it could be a factor as well.

Another possible key was the mention of improved "facilities" at WKU. IF Brohm feels that UAB has reached a sort of "plateau" in regard to its infrastructure for the next several years, that might have been a factor in moving with this particular offer.

There's that word again.

Brohm could be leaving for any number of reasons:

He makes way less than the DC, whose defense was way less productive.

He has a head coach (McGee) that decided who would play at QB, and maybe Brohm disagreed with the plan but was powerless to do anything about it.

Maybe he wanted to get closer to home.

Maybe he likes BP more than GM.

Or he sees a program on the rise vs one that is stagnant.

Or he's seen the Civil Rights Institute and now is bored.

Maybe all that.
I didn't know Johnson made more than him. Now I REALLY think the defense sucked.

Maybe he thinks he'll learn more from Petrino.

OC's have a better record of getting hired elsewhere after coaching under Petrino than they do McGee.

Then why did McGee's first OC get hired without ever coaching a game?

Two OCs hired away in one season. I think the advantage here goes to McGee. 03-lmfao

Bowling Green has the Corvette Museum, which is obviously a more tourist destination spot. And Mammoth Cave beats the hell out of Rickwood Caverns.

Wow... Reggie Johnson make nearly as much as our last head coach.

RE: Brohm takes pay cut to go to WKU - BAMANBLAZERFAN - 01-03-2013 03:35 PM

It IS possible that Petrino will break from the past experiences of former BCS coaches who signed on with lesser schools in order to get back into coaching. That tactic has not worked out very well for the previous examples whoso far have never gotten back to the BCS level. It may be that the top recruits they used to get are now not interested in playing for them at UTEP, UCF, or any other program that might be named so they fail to get the great records it takes to climb back. Did I overlook some former BCS level coach who did make it back and I forgot him?

The only example I can think of that compares is Mike Price, since both he and Price "fell" from the top programs because of personal off the field issues. However, Price never proved himself at a really big program. He did well at Washington State, but that is not the same as even Arkansas or Louisville.

Other "has beens" are guys that did great, but then failed and got fired for not winning enough. Petrino was never in jeopardy of losing a college job for not winning enough.

Correction: Maybe O'Leary applies. But he has done well at UCF.

Mike Price retired from UTEP which I'm sure was not his original plan. The coaches at UCF and SMU are getting back because THEIR SCHOOL is getting back to BCS standing and they are "along for the ride". Are there any examples of former BCS coaches getting hired back into a BCS program on his own record?
