Hypocrisy - MiamiHuskie - 01-02-2013 02:26 PM

I can accept the loss, as painful as it is, but I still get cranked up at the hypocrisy and double standard that exists.
As pointed out in other threads, the AQ teams in the last two OB's have lost by greater margins than us. Does the press trash VT or Clemson? No.

It was good seeing the Huskies turnout at the game. But how obnoxious is that Indian yell, seriously?

Definitely a double standard. We're not supposed to belong, so they choose every angle they can that purports to show that we don't belong, instead of looking at it objectively.

I don't mind that "chop" song they do, actually. Got used to it while watching old Atlanta baseball games. But whatever other chant they were doing, I couldn't tell a word they were saying.

At one point they were screaming "underrated" at the NIU players. Definitely the low class bandwagon Bill-Bob types doing the screaming.

You guys were in a no-win situation as far as perception goes.

- Win or lose a tight game, and FSU was "disinterested" and not motivated enough to play a lil ol' MAC team.

- Lose by a decent margin, and it "proves" their babble.

I thought more people among Joe Q Public would be more amped to watch a David vs. Goliath matchup - and pull for David - instead of a constant stream football factory vs. football factory monotony.

Actually, Clemson got absolutely ripped in the media after the debacle last year. The difference is that they also play enough games against big-time opponents, winning their fair share of them (see the Clemson-LSU bowl game this year), that they're "forgiven" for it, whereas NIU doesn't get enough chances to prove whether it was fluke, or just one game, etc. The lasting memory people will have of NIU is the FSU game, while VT and Clemson get other opportunities on national TV in big games to prove they're good (or in some cases, not good).

But Clemson did get trashed last year after West Virginia made their defense look like a bunch of traffic cones.

RE: Hypocrisy - NIU007 - 01-02-2013 07:25 PM

Well, I hope people that watched it remember that we were only down by a TD going into 4th quarter and it was only that last TD after the non-fumble by Brown that put the game away for good.

Because we are new to the BCS bowls our "worthiness" will be assessed based on the Orange Bowl. But the fact is that FSU team is really good and would absolutely school about 90% of the AQ teams out there, not just us. Dont' care though, we'll just keep on building our program.

Yep, which is why Boise gets so much respect when the BCS standings come out every year now.

Until a MAC team, or even a different MAC team every year/other year, gets to a BCS access bowl, the stigma will remain. Personally I think that the MAC is better than the rest of the "Group of Five" (MAC, Big East, MWC, SunBelt, Mid-American), especially with Louisville and Syracuse leaving to the ACC. But even if a MAC team does not get the final AQ spot, there are still at large chances.

The chop is accompanied by the war chant which has no words. It needs no words when there are 85K+ chanting it. Deion Sanders brought the chop to Atlanta when he went left FSU.

Some of the fans at the Orange Bowl were chanting "on your knees" at the end of the game. Tasteless? probably to a lot of people, but other teams have fans doing similar...

The disinterested thing is crap. We're all FBS, and we all want to win every game. The disinterested thing is a falacy created by the Hirbstreits of the world so the AQ teams can have an excuse ready to go when they lose to us. The goons at ESPN said "Florida must be disinterested in this matchup" when Louiseville was up on them by 21 points. B.S.... 2 good football teams were on the field and Louiseville was executing better, period.

If they are disinterested in a bcs game, then they don't deserve to be there.

I saw a section of NIU fans doing the chop during of the chants and was pretty confused. I zoomed in with my camera to see if I was missing something...I see was missing the nice hand gesture they had added to it. I thought it was hilarious, the FSU fans around me failed to see the humor. 01-wingedeagle

+1 million.

I say if it's gotten so old and mundane to them...step on down. There's a s**t-ton of us non AQs out there that would GLADLY take their places. Teams & their fans who would cherish an experience like that!
