Says a lot about a coach staying in one place for his/her entire career as long as he's been at USA. Congratulations, Coach Arrow.

He hasn't stayed his whole career at USA.
I guess until we hear the reason for the retirement, congratulations will have to be put on hold.

Wasn't he there during the Sun Belt wars with Coach Bartow? Sorry, I may have my coach's names mixed up. Hope his retirement is for a good reason and not something bad or scandal-ridden.

I think he left and came back...

RE: NBR: USA HC Arrow retiring - Memphis Blazer - 12-19-2012 03:59 PM

Yea he was at South when UAb was in the Sun Belt, bit left and then came back a few years ago

As good a coach ad he is, I'm surprised he never made it to a bigger school.

Yes, he was there during Bartow's years & was an assistant at UAB for a year or two along the way.

He coached at Texas A&M Corpus Christi between stints.

Retiring in a hurry normally isn't a good thing.

He is 65 years old though, so maybe he decided to leave on his own.

The natives are restless at USA... it didn't help him that the team knocked off a terrible (but ranked at the time) FSU to start the season.

They thought this was going to be a season to make a run to the NCAAs, but they tanked.

Just realized his last game was against his former team - TA&M Corpus Christi

Arrow was never an assistant at UAB. You may be thinking of Mike Hanks, who was fired at South Alabama in the 1980’s and Bartow gave him a job as an assistant for one year. Hanks was a former Samford coach too.

It's ironic that this is the second time Arrow has left South Alabama mid season. He was fired the first time after starting the season 1-3. Arrow was fired following losses of 68 and 45 points. This time his retirement comes after being 5-5 and 2-0 in conference play
