As far as ranking goes, how does this compare to classes we've had in the past? And for the record, I believe bball is a sport where you can really coach up players and pre-college rankings are not that significant.

Highest ranked since the fall signing class during Anderson's last year. I believe Rivals had them ranked #25.

Who would have been in that one? Delaney and Kinnard?

We could end up having a top 25 class for 2014 if we finish in a great way this season such as winning the NIT or making the round of 32(3rd round) of NCAA tournament. Its gonna be hard to persuade Norris, Hall, and Haas to come to UAB. Who knows, our team could be starting to click like coach has hinted at or we couldve played the right at opponent at the right time. Calhoun sounds like he would like to play at UAB. At one time, he's said:

As for UAB, it is home. Located in Birmingham, Calhoun could play in front of the people he grew up under and become one of the great basketball legends from the city.
“It would be great if I ended up at UAB. I like it, it is home to me.”
However, other factors are arising for Calhoun.
“I’m trying to wait on Riley [Norris] and Tyler [Madison] to see what they do. I want to play with good players and people I have played with before. That would make me comfortable.”

That article there is proof that rankings are meaningless. Out of that group, only Jonathan Tiller had a decent college career.

RE: UAB Basketball Recruiting Class ranked 32nd Nationally by Hoop Scoop - BlazeN'Bham - 12-14-2012 10:20 PM

It depends on whether or not those players had stayed and played in the Anderson system as well as if anderson had stayed. So no it didnt mean anything at that time. Does this mean Calipari is a good recruiter or a good coach, if recruit rankings are meaningless?

RE: UAB Basketball Recruiting Class ranked 32nd Nationally by Hoop Scoop - Memphis Blazer - 12-14-2012 10:24 PM

Anderson didn't recruit the highest ranked players. He recruited players who fit his system. At the level that Calipari recruits, then yes, they are the best players in the country.

Howard Crawford had a decent career didn't he?

I hope this class works out better for us than that one did.

He had one good year - his senior year. His first three years was nothing special.

Having a good year this year will help, but I don't think it's crucial to sign a good class for 2014. Haase is mainly selling his name, resume, system, and what he thinks he can do long term. Most people understand that this is a rebuilding season.

Now next year's team could have a big effect if these recruits wait until the late signing period. We're also in on a big time PF from Kentucky.

Would that be Shane Hall?
