Why not U La La - usm99 - 11-28-2012 07:09 PM

If this has been or is being discussed already, I'll delete but I haven't seen anything with everything that's gone on lately with additions and deletions. I think UL-L would be a good/better addition as far as product on the field goes. Their football has now gone to back to back bowl games and their baseball team has traditionally been very good. Not sure of their basketball but how many times are schools above average in all 3 of the Big 3 sports. Granted it's only about 4 hours away from USM but Lafayette has always traveled well to Hattiesburg and has had good attendance at home events. You can't argue with their baseball/football tailgaiting as it's one of the best you will find. With no presence in south Louisiana with Tulane leaving, I feel like they have more to bring to the table. The only downside I guess is the same that's holding back USM and that's we are in a small media market.

Market.

MTSU got CUSA back into TN.
FAU locks CUSA into the entire S. Florida market w FIU.

Potential and not performance is driving the bus.

No. No way in hell. No.

Pick up Toledo and ULL then you can say Holy Toledo and Ooh La La all you want. It would be awesome.

RE: Why not U La La - Luckyshot - 11-28-2012 07:24 PM

For one thing, when they renamed their University they weren't smart enough to choose something that couldn't easily by shortened to LA-La.

A-State before ULL but either of them before NMSU - sorry Aggies - good BB program but really bad football.

Yea, toss a (ex)dog(now pepper) a bone here. 04-cheers

I say only let ULL in if they sign an iron clad agreement to only use the Univerity of Louisiana at Lafayette, UL-Lafayette, or ULL as their name from now to the end of time. 05-stirthepot

I really think that A-State has more upside than the Cajuns and would bring in a new state. They are really committed to their football program now. No market though - just like us...

RE: Why not U La La - Ole Blue - 11-28-2012 09:55 PM

UL has the second most popular program in the state, and they've got pretty good facilities. I always liked the Cajuns. stAte is also a good add, Malzahn will be great for the Red Wolves.

Give me Louisiana or give me death. 03-lmfao

SBC remnants are in dire straits though, but I'll still be pumping money into the program and going to games.

As a Tech fan I would have to argue that - ULL has had good attendance for a couple of seasons but we have had better attendance for the last 20 plus years.

I knew you would, but TBH it's the recent successes that count more than anything else. MT's OVC history matters not with regard to our move to CUSA. We've been FBS for only 11 years, and in that decade (more or less) we've had the SBC all-sports trophy for the last five years IIRC. That's dominating the conference, but in recent times. UL's attendance has been high and getting higher throughout the last couple of years and people are starting to latch onto them. They've got potential, just like Tech does, and I think the CUSA would probably benefit from them. But that's just my $0.02, and they probably won't be added in the first place.

Better school and better sports programs = better conference

mtsufan, if you think ULL is the second most popular team in the state, you have been drinking too much ULL Kool-Aid. Once you are no longer in a conference with them, and subject to their constant delusional bombardment, you will probably recover.

They brought 40,000 to New Orleans. There's no debating that they bring fans and they bring a lot of them. I still would want them in the conference, and plus they'd give you an in-state rival. Just think how big that game would be. 40,000 at either place, perhaps?
