RE: '12-'13 Preseason Basketball Predictions - TheDancinMonarch - 11-03-2012 01:53 PM

23 wins? 24 wins? That's pretty good for a team with a "soft" center, a 200 pound power forward and little or no depth up front and not to mention a talented but rookie point guard. When we break the 16 barrier I will be pleased, nay, ecstatic.

22 wins last year with one of the worst PGs in CAA history. Also, many big games are at home this year. You don't do the team any favors with the "we suck" attitude.

Oops, thanks for the correction. That stat looked terrible. Still does.

23 wins may be on the optimistic side but it's a far more likely result than 16. We're not exactly facing an ACC schedule here; and as EverRespect said, a lot of the tough OOC games are at home.

Do you understand what a difference of opinion is? That is what we have. You might be right in which case I will be wrong. I might be right in which case you will be wrong. Neither of us actually knows whether we will end up with the former or the latter. So a prudent person would just say "Hmmmm.", keep their powder dry while waiting for the polls to close in Boston in early March 2013. Then and only then can the official mocking or gloating begin.

Have a nice day!

If you think the number is 16 that's cool, but I challenge you to find the 14 losses in that schedule. When you go team by team, I have a hard time seeing us winning fewer than 21-23.

So, you're just ignoring the part where you told EverRespect he misinterpreted your post? When he took the only possible interpretation there was. And now that I've exposed that, you fall back to irrelevant generic statements that tend to defuse confrontational encounters like "We have different opinions, so let's ignore this discussion for the next 4 months."

Check out the bold portions. You were the first person in this thread to offer an opinion on someone else's picks, which I don't have a problem with. Apparently you don't either as long as it's you who is the one who is giving it. 01-wingedeagle

A more analytical person would stop posting such silliness.

RE: '12-'13 Preseason Basketball Predictions - EverRespect - 11-04-2012 10:58 AM

I really want to hear from more people on predictions. If the larger expectation is really 16-19 wins, this program is in trouble because that was also the consensus last year and next year will likely be even lower so that would be 3 years in a row where the established "fan" base expects mediocrity from the team.

Swept by Delaware and Drexel, and lose road games @GSU and @GMU in conference.
Maybe a little optimistic with the VCU win, but it's time we beat them again...
Maybe a little pessimistic with the loss to VMI, but their point guard was really really good. He was only a sophomore last year, right?

RE: '12-'13 Preseason Basketball Predictions - BigBlueBeast - 11-04-2012 12:54 PM

As a group our guards may be more talented than the previous group and they look to be good by the time they are upperclassmen, however, they are young and inexperienced. The front court is thin. This is a rebuilding year.
15-18 wins is reasonable, 20 or more is not.

This is a very winnable OOC schedule. We'll know more as the season goes on, but I have decent expectations for this team with the talent we've brought in this year. Murray State and UVA are road games, so they will be tough. The only time I think we will lose at home this year are to Mason and Drexel. I'm calling an upset against Delaware, simply because this team has a different dynamic than last year.

If we put together a 23-win season, we've got to be NIT-bound. In a year where we are ineligible because the CAA is insecure about their future, that's damn good.

Now, it's also possible that we will all be singing a different tune in a month or two.

Also, to answer the poster's question about VMI above: I believe you're talking about Keith Gabriel, who dropped 34 on us and put on a show with his dunks. He was a senior last season, so he is gone.
