Well SBC, we dropped the ball on this one....
Let's make it up with GaSouthern and AppSt

Is this serious? I mean, honestly, What the ACTUAL #$)*?....

Apparently it was just vouchers.

To redeem the vouchers you had to open an account at the credit union that sponsored the drop.

I think I'm more surprised by the fact that the GA dome actually changes the carpet and wall wrap to be all GSU. Thumbs up for them on that. Still a pretty weak showing, again. That was by far the worst pick we could have had for an addition. 03-banghead

I hope that was a practice and not a game.

Growing pains...the HC that is hired must be able to work the student body and local fan base. A name hire that is of quality will work.

From what I remember of Georgia State from the ASUN basketball days, GSU had little fan support. Why would anyone think it was going to get better with football?

Oh boy, this is going to be great. Look what "large market" expansion is bringing to the SBC. 03-banghead

Resolution, void their invite. That would do it.

I'm sure Georgia State could get decent crowds if they start winning; right now they're not doing too well, so the fans aren't showing up.

I think Benson got caught up in the 'large metro population' grab. That decision was made, and we have no choice but to support their growth.

In the future, I hope we concentrate more towards the quality of the programs. If we can't get the big tv dollars other conferences are getting, we can dang sure provide the best football and beat the crap out of those 'rich' schools.

I feel it was more of a strategic grab to position the SBC to later pursue Ga. So. And App. State.

Maybe, but there is no doubt at this point that adding Ga Southern and App State helps Ga State much more than it hurts them. Ga State fans don't like the idea of Ga Southern moving up and being their "equal", but they need the rivalry to help build their fan base. Also, Ga Southern and App State would bring at least 5,000 fans or more to the dome which helps attendance and the football atmosphere. Certainly the Sun Belt schedule will help some, but there are no natural rivalries in the Sun Belt for Ga State.

I thought at the time, and I still sort of agree, that Benson made the move because at the time there were 4 schools with rumors of CUSA contact, and he wanted to make sure he had a couple teams lined up to move in in case all 4 left.

He didnt go for App or Georgia State because he fell for the old Market routine.
