Devon Walker INFO: moves shoulders after surgery - Wavetime - 09-10-2012 10:19 PM

Not out of the woods by any means, but positive. Please keep the prayers coming.

Thanks for the update.

Sounds like at the very least he'll have upper body mobility.

Hope he continues to progress and regains/retains full use of his limbs.

Have they said if they expect him to be paralyzed at all or anything yet?

That is great news.

They were reporting today that it would be up to 72 hours before know the full impact of his injuries.

Shoulders should mean arms too, ultimately...and that's positive news for sure! Let's hope he's wiggling those toes soon too!

Please keep this thread going throughout the season with any information you all get. I'm not super religious and it's been a while since I've been to church but I have been praying for this young man a lot lately. Hoping for a miracle and that he isn't paralyzed in the end.

Thanks in advance for any information.

It often takes 72 hours (or sometimes more) to decrease the swelling around the spinal cord to be able to tell the significance of a spinal cord injury. (Or the central nervous system in general)
Too early to tell about upper body mobility, but it is a good sign. The fact that he can move his shoulders should mean that he will be able to breath on his own without the assistance of a ventilator of any type.

Prayers sent. Here's hoping for a ""Dennis Byrd" type recovery.

That is very good news. Was watching the game when it happened and very afraid for his life, based on the coverage at the time.

This kind of injury takes time to shed light on extent. You have swelling compressing nerves and a patient in and out of surgery. We won't know for another day or two what he can do and cannot do. I'm thrilled he can move his shoulders at this point but fear that may be it.

I don't why...just a gut feeling I have...but I really think Devon is going to walk again.

I believe he will step onto the field at the Superdome again! He will play for Tulane again, I know it. 04-cheers

The more I learn about Devon, the more I like him. I am waiting with extreme hope and prayers that he has a good recovery. I just feel sick about the injury.

He'll never play d1 football again. He is a senior and needs substantial recovery time. But he WILL graduate (I expect) :) :)
