Hey Niners... - Chappy - 08-21-2012 06:19 PM

Appalachian State has sold out their 5,000 ticket allotment to the opener.

I expect the same kind of support from you. 01-lauramac2

Oh, and you too ODU, but I'm sure you'll come through.

RE: Hey Niners... - 49RFootballNow - 08-21-2012 06:25 PM

You're App St's Superbowl. That being said I'm sure we'll bring a nice group to Greenvul in 2015 or 16.

RE: Hey Niners... - moss2k - 08-21-2012 06:38 PM

I don't see it being a problem. Will be great trip, we bring plenty down for our currently mediocre basketball team.

RE: Hey Niners... - 919R - 08-21-2012 07:03 PM

We took 8000 for a soccer game 3 states away......5000 to ECU for football, not a problem.

Sure hope so, since that's the bill of goods Holland is trying to sell us, about how much money having you and ODU in the league is going to make us in extra ticket revenue. Hopefully you guys live up to that and bring as many as App brings.

Sounds about right. Market, basketball, questionable to non-existant football history and support. Sounds like a Big East candidate to me.

Solid post, I'm willing to be that 95% of ECU fans wouldn't want to be in the Big East with all those turible programs.

We've been in a league with nearly every one of those programs. I honestly don't give a damn about a single one of them, but I do also understand that the Big East is always going to be a higher paid and better league than C-USA. So no the schools there don't mean anything to me, but the money, bowls, and increased prestige level does.

We've been in a league with most of them too. Any CUSA team would jump at the offer to join them. $$$$$$$$

I'm confused.

With the exception of 2, you don't like the programs that you're now in a conference with because realignment has weakened CUSA. (I'll be respectful of the members and not use your description of them.) However, you don't want to have anything to do with the programs that left, even though they made your conference home stronger.

I think that you may be related to my mother in law somewhere down the line.

No my point was I don't really feel any connection to any of the current and future Big East members. Like you guys are reuniting with your oldest rivals UL and UC so that's another huge positive for you aside from money. UCF is getting in a league with USF which they have always wanted. Even C-USA in it's original form was just a marriage of convenience for ECU. Aside from USM it really didn't have any programs we had a long history with. So basically I look at the Big East now like I looked at C-USA at it's inception. Just the best case landing spot but not really filled with any schools with have any deep connection with. Of all the programs in both the Big East and C-USA I'd rather be in a league with USM and Marshall than any of the others, but that doesn't make up for my feelings about the rest of the schools here and how pathetic this league gets paid, respected, and the crappy bowls it gets.

Because UNCC football has bigger fish to fry than ECU, right?

ECU is definitely a big game for us but it is not the only place we travel to. We routinely bring 5K or more to SoCon venues. Belittle us all you like because we are FCS but I think most UNCC fans would be thrilled if their football program ended up with the same level of support as App.

Happy, probably......."Thrilled"------not so sure about that. Also, I hope our fans actually continue to support all of our sports MUCH better than they do at App. There is currently no comparison between the two in that regard.

I'm pretty sure the leaders in Charlotte would be thrilled with bringing in 28-30K every home game.

As for the other sports, I'm assuming you are primarily referring to basketball in which case, you are correct. Our hoops program has struggled and the fan support has been pretty sad. I will give credit where it is due; in spite of having some down seasons recently, UNCC basketball attendance and support has remained solid. I'd be very, very happy if we had that level of support on the hardwood.

I would love for us to average 25,000+ in our first few years. That's nothing to sneeze at, but do you deny that ECU is App's most important scheduled game of the year? As for your traveling fans, helps to play teams in less than a few hour's driving distance of Boone, does it not?
