UTSA to Sun Belt? - jarmzet - 04-22-2012 07:54 PM

A local UTSA football blogger/podcaster tweeted today that UTSA won't be invited to the CUSA/MWC (and UNT will be) (for what it is worth).

Here's his twitter stream:

If that's the case, will UTSA be in the Sun Belt in 2013?

How about Texas State?

Is the Sun Belt going to get to 12 football playing teams with a conference championship game?

Who is in the conference in 2013?

Would Sun Belters be happy with the addition of UTSA and Texas State?

If UTSA is out, that's a good indication that they are going to 20. Bring on the Texas twins.

This sounds like good news to me

Yes. UTSA especially. Alliance is making an error passing them up.

we add Texas State and UTSA for the West division and Ga State and App State/Ga Southern for the East division. that'd be nice.

I thought we decided there wasn't even going to be a merger

Probably a phased in merger over time. It's just hard to imagine them locking up at 24 in the beginning. But who really knows?

If UTSA does go to the Sun Belt and UTSA gets to play teams in the East, I think it'll be fun to see UTSA play South Alabama and Georgia State for the next few years.

UTSA played them last year and went to overtime versus both. UTSA will play them both next year.

It will be interesting to use the games between these three schools to see how they are each progressing in FBS.

If this is true about UTSA, MT's chances of a CUSA invitation just got a lot better.

Yeah I find it somewhat interesting how all three games went to OT. Fun times ahead.

And what about Charlotte?

Not going to be a merger. Each league will stay separate and only got to 10 each, which seems that CUSA will add UNT and FIU and stop there. The question will be who will the MWC add. They will be at 8 once Fresno and Nevada comes in. Adding USU and San Jose should get them to 10. If all of this comes to be, the SBC will be sitting pretty with the options it has for additions.

Wow. I didn't realize the Georgia State/South Alabama game went to OT also. That's cool.

Take that garbage out of here. None of our teams need a lifeboat like La Tech does. If they get invited and go sure but you guys are border line insane mentioning this on every thread.

If they choose to leave the Sun Belt.

You make an interesting point. But that means LaTech is out. ECU wants a dancing partner. That would be UNCC in my opinion.

UNCC will get in later on...they have all the CUSA needs...by that I mean markets, markets, and more markets.

Just as in real estate: location, location, location.

If they choose to leave the Sun Belt.

If Middle Tennessee does get invited to join CUSA, they will without hesitation.
