OT- Why not Akron? - MUsince96 - 04-20-2012 09:45 AM

Pretty big market, a new state, needed team in the eastern time zone. Plus having the Bowden's there could bring some attention to the league.

Isn't the stadium new also? New big name coach. Sounds like they are putting new emphasis on football. In the 18th ranked market. Why not Akron?

BECAUSE IT'S AKRON!!!! Akron is Cleveland's smelly armpit. I can't wait to party after the game at Quaker Square!

If you could get any 1 Ohio MAC school by themselves then I'd be all for it. The problem is I'm not sure any one of them would leave without you inviting several of them and then it ceases to be worth it.

RE: Why not Akron? - MUsince96 - 04-20-2012 10:44 AM

I get UNT. I get FIU. I get, even like MTSU. What I don't get, and it's no offense to them, is LT. We already have a school in Louisiana and a plethora of schools in that part of the country. The conference and MU & ECU in general need teams in the Eastern time zone. I know Akron sucks right now; but with the coach, stadium, and market they could add a lot of value to the conference. Heck even adding Toledo and Ohio would be great. Ohio and even parts of Michigan would be adding TV sets to the league we don't have and help with Eastern time zone teams.

RE: Why not Akron? - JustAnotherName - 04-20-2012 11:27 AM

I don't get LTU either. Makes no sense to me. I don't see what they bring to the table. They are a tiny school (< 6,500 full-time undergrads). They have a tiny athletic budget (< $15.5M in expenses). And even if you want to count Shreveport as their "market," it's a relatively tiny market compared to candidates like UTSA/TSU, FIU/FAU, ODU, MTSU, GSU and Charlotte.

FIU, MTSU and ODU in the east make the most sense to me. I think ODU is more ready to make the jump to FBS than GSU is and Charlotte, who's supposedly a C-USA candidate, doesn't even play football yet. You also get 3 additional eastern schools, 2 of which are close to ECU and Marshall. Then add UNT in the west and you've got your 12 schools depending on whether UTEP moves to the MWC or not.

If UTEP goes west then I'd be looking at UTSA/TSU, GSU and Charlotte instead of LTU. I'm assuming one of UTSA/TSU would've gone west with UTEP. Jmo.

Please, stop already with these rust belt suggestions. We need to add schools in states that have better job opportunities and growing populations not stagnant places like Ohio. Besides Ohio is so watered down with FBS programs it's ridiculous. Only one worth a damn is Ohio State and all their residents know it.

Id rather take Grand Valley State. They at least have National Championships.03-drunk

RE: Why not Akron? - templefootballfan - 04-20-2012 03:40 PM

glad you guys are starting to realize, C-USA needs NE presence
to rebuild thier TV market.
And none are bigger than Mass, Ohio & Western NY.
2 schools 60 miles outside of Nashville doesn't cut it

RE: Why not Akron? - marshallisqbu - 04-20-2012 04:29 PM

I'd rather have OU.

Nope the best conf in football does just fine without NE presence. SEC take good football programs or one's with potential ODU, JMU and move on

Oklahoma isn't joining CUSA.

(Yes, I know you meant Ohio...but for a large amount of posters on this board, the initials "OU" are inseparably linked to the Sooners.)

Ohio and Marshall are in the same DMA. Doubt that will ever happen.

RE: Why not Akron? - RustonCAT - 04-20-2012 04:39 PM

Yeah i have never understood LT talk in CUSA..They are bad and they really arent growing any they average 20k at games but it seems to be steady...They dont have any markets or masss populations to apeal to.nor do they have a student body that cares anything about their team.LSU rules the state.even right here in Ruston,LA

I also dont understand the whole MTSU to replace Memphis, MTSU will never have major support in the memphis market as long as ASU and Ole miss are alive

RE: Why not Akron? - GCEagle - 04-20-2012 05:17 PM

If Akron is our best hope then we are all screwed

Agreed.

No. The only Ohio schools I would consider are Toledo and Ohio.
