92% of jobs lost were among women - AtlanticLeague - 04-13-2012 08:21 AM

http://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2012/04/why-mitt-romneys-economic-war-on-women-charge-could-backfire/255754/
Quote:Facing a double-digit deficit among female voters, likely Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney has accused the White House of waging an economic "war on women." Since Obama took office in January 2009, he's charged, an amazing 92 percent of all job losses have been among women.

He's absolutely right. In the last 26 months, U.S. payrolls have shrunk by 740,000 jobs and of those, 683,000 belonged to women, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

But from what segment of the economy did the majority of female job losses come from?

Quote:The BLS data that gave Romney his stat also shows that 440,000 of those women's jobs were in government.

Ouch. That damages the smaller government angle.

But he can still blame democrats for that, right?
Quote:According to the Roosevelt Institute, 40.5 percent of all state and local government job losses occurred in places where Republicans won control of the legislature in 2010. Call that the Scott Walker effect, after the Tea Party-backed governor of Wisconsin who has clashed fiercely with public sector unions. Meanwhile, another 31 percent of those government jobs vanished in Texas. Call that the Rick Perry effect. All other states combined accounted for just 28 percent of state and local layoffs.

Well, Romney didn't like Perry anyways, right?

No substance? There's a lot to work with here: Unemployment, gender politics, size of government.

Oh there's substance. The explanation for the drop in women employment is that state and local governments controlled or influenced by "austerity" Repugnicans are shedding women from the workforce; yet Romney is blaming Obama. Never trust a GOPer to tell you the whole truth.

No, it shows they are shedding jobs from the government. There is very little intersection between that and the "workforce".

Which states have better economics? States that used austerity on public debts and are right to work? Or States that are bloated with debt and union controlled?

Why should government produce society?

Why should government produce society?

I think you've just circled the problem.

I always trust max to try to lie about these things. Problem is he's not very smart and his lies are easy to spot. I'm sure this worked at 3rd rate colleges, where the faculty just parroted the liberal party line, and didn't understand it either.

Gov't should be shedding jobs, it's the right thing to do. It's also evidence that gov't spending is way too high. And proof that Keynesian economics is voo doo.

However, where Romney is right is this: not enough private sector jobs being created. This is a war on all citizens, but women need to recognize how it hurts them. When the private sector struggles it hurts all jobs. Obama's policies are demonstrative failures. Everyone is being hurt, and that includes women.

Exactly. Had Obama pursued a real effort to produce economic growth instead of the failed stimulus there would be jobs in the private sector there for these women to go to when the government rightly got rid of them.

RE: 92% of jobs lost were among women - Max Power - 04-14-2012 09:58 AM

LOL where did I lie idiot? Because government "should be" shedding jobs because it's "the right thing to do?" OH WHAT LOGIC! OH WHAT A SCHOLAR!

RE: 92% of jobs lost were among women - Max Power - 04-14-2012 10:02 AM

No, there are alternatives to austerity. It's called borrowing and (at the fed level) currency devaluation. Why don't you ask Greece how their austerity plan is working out for them? Their private sector is shrinking. Why don't you look at some facts about our growth at the federal level where we're borrowing and devaluating? Our private sector has gone from shrinking at 7% to growing at 3%.

You suffer under the same stupidity as Robert.

It never ceases to amaze me how completely ignorant you liberals are about what's happening in Greece.
