OT: Alpha Tau Omega officially returning to UAB - blazr - 04-11-2012 08:59 PM The Alabama Theta Phi chapter of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity officially accepted an invitation to recolonize at UAB in Spring 2013. ATO was one of the oldest fraternities on campus, having been founded in 1980, and one of the longest tenured as they were a consistent campus presence from then until 2004 when numbers became insufficient to fulfill the chapter's financial obligations. For me, for us, it is an exciting chance to bring an important piece of UAB's history in student life forward to integrate with the campus' dynamic transformation and what remains in store. I want to extend a sincere thank you to the posters - ATOs or no - who played a part in making this happen. On a personal note, the decision to place a priority on returning now-defunct chapters to the Southside shows an appreciation for shared heritage that will not be forgotten. Ben A. You are welcome. I made it well known to every Greek Advisor that this should be standard policy and have gotten most of the other current chapter advisors to want this as well. Glad they listened with Theta Chi currently colonizing and ATO returning instead of Sigma Pi that supposedly has an interest group on campus. I am actually trying to get the IFC to put something in writing in its constitution that says returning chapter will always get priority in expansion. Any updates of getting some sort of on campus housing for the Greek organizations? Now that there are 6 organizations on campus, you would think that Greek housing would become a priority. RE: OT: Alpha Tau Omega officially returning to UAB - DragonClaw - 04-12-2012 11:40 AM I was an ATO at UAB circa 1985 or thereabouts. I was never terribly active, but am very glad to see ATO returning to UAB. It's cause for a kegger if you ask me.
