Postgame/Post BE Tournament thoughts - BearChatter v2.0 - 03-10-2012 11:24 PM

1. I didn't really care if UC won it all or not. I was emotionally drained after beating Syracuse.
2. Beating G'town and Syracuse meant more than winning the BE Tournament for me. Huge win last night.
3. UC had the harder road in the BE Tournament. Starters had to play alot of minutes and were exhausted. No legs.
4. Never bothers me to lose going into the Big Dance. I remember when Pitino was at UK.......they got upset in the SEC tournament and went on and won it all. UC played their hearts out and just simply ran out of gas, although they had plenty of chances to still win it at the end. In other words, might do more good losing a close one going into the real tournament, than winning a somewhat meaningless game.
5. I didn't think either team looked very good. They should go back to eliminating the bottom 4 teams in the BE from the BE Tournament. Then starting the tournament on a day that would allow the BE Championship game to have a day off. Maybe wait and play it on Sunday afternoon before the brackets are announced. For me, that is ugly tired basketball that I don't really care to watch. Not pretty or fun.

No excuses. UC needed the wins over G'town and Syracuse for a good seeding in the real tournament, and frankly, I just couldn't emotionally get into this game tonight.

I take exception to many of your posts, but this I'm with you on this one. I think we are a better team than UL, and am upset we lost, but felt much more on edge during the Cuse game. Not the end of the world, but if we would have even played our "B" game we'd be able to call ourselves Big East champs right now. Agreed it was an ugly game. A nice tourney run will make me forget all about this.

Cincinnati was good enough to win the Big East tournament. They definitely had the tougher draw having to expend all their energy against arguably the two best teams in the league. What stings is they had a chance to get it to one possession so many times but I really think they were just completely gased, Parker played like a man in this one...but those FT's would have helped.

1. I care - it would have been nice to win this tournament. But I'm still pleased overall with the season so far, especially considering how it started.

RE: Postgame/Post BE Tournament thoughts - HattoriHanzo - 03-10-2012 11:38 PM

The disappointment is only in that they were so close, playing a team I thought they were superior to, by far. Just seemed to lack the intensity they showed last night. Played hard all the way through, proud of the effort.

Louisville exposed a weakness I didn't know we had,,the inability to get the ball quickly over the time line. Seems like
every time down the court we were left with 25 seconds, then using 10-12 to get in offense, and take a lousy shot.
Dixon and Kilpatrick can't pass or handle pressure, and when Cash was on the bench, we were dead.
Second, wtf took us a whole half get Parker to attack the glass. If we had done that after the first 6 or so missed
3 pointers, we may have fouled Deng or Siva out/kept them on the bench.
I havn't read any post game, was Dixon injured/dehydrated/exhaused?? 2 of 8 fg, 0-2 ft 4pts, 2 rebounds

RE: Postgame/Post BE Tournament thoughts - BearChatter v2.0 - 03-10-2012 11:50 PM

Syracuse exposed it last night when they pressured us. We struggle against it badly.

RE: Postgame/Post BE Tournament thoughts - Billy_Bearcat - 03-10-2012 11:52 PM

Dion Dixon kills this team in pressure situations. For a senior guard he couldn't hit 2 FTs in a row to save his life. I really expected more from him this year.

What a great year so far...I'm am disappointed we didn't bring it home tonight...esp since we so easily could have but oh well...

great run and let's get ready for the Big Dance...

at this point, if we don't make it to the sweet 16 I will see it as a let down

we are good enough to get that far for sure

RE: Postgame/Post BE Tournament thoughts - JFlight21 - 03-10-2012 11:56 PM

Dion has been downright worthless lately. He refuses to pass it when he runs the point and he is the worst shooter on the team. He really needs to pick his play up.

RE: Postgame/Post BE Tournament thoughts - Bearcat_Bounce - 03-10-2012 11:58 PM

He was on the bench for the stretch run...

RE: Postgame/Post BE Tournament thoughts - Bearcats#1 - 03-10-2012 11:59 PM

some key moments that KILLED us IMO:

-JJ losing composure and throwing elbow that cost us a possession
-Down 4 and 2 or 3 minutes left, Cash dribbles ball out of bounds
-VERY nest possession, after holding UofL scorelss Parker misses two free throws

these three possessions hurt us bad...

Oh, and siva takes 34 steps, falling sideways and hits a prayer

He has to stop shooting 3s. It just isn't his game. He has a great midrange shot he doesn't use nearly enough.

agree Sub...I was about to post that the only time I feel good about what he does is when he drains a 12-14 footer...he can do that.

Absolutely. Good post.

Completely agree. Did a great job getting the deficit down from 14 to 4 points but just couldn't get anymore done.

When he was a sophomore, I felt good things were ahead for Dixon. Tons of athleticism. At this point, I'm looking forward to Parker taking over for him next season. Dixon makes bad decisions at the worst possible times. Has bothered me a ton all season.

RE: Postgame/Post BE Tournament thoughts - HattoriHanzo - 03-11-2012 12:07 AM

Dion shoots best when he has to release it quickly. Otherwise, forget it.

Key moment for me: over 10 minutes left, down 6 (I think?). Dion misses 2 FTs, then Kilpatrich fouls Kuric on a 3 attempt after the team had played great d the entire possession. The perfect example of how poorly they played tonight from a mental standpoint. So, so many stupid things. Guyn running past the ball instead of grabbing it, JJ's elbow, Cash over-dribbling it off his foot, horrific FT shooting, even worse than usual. Just a game where it looked like they had nothing left between the ears.

Parker has been a revelation though. First against Marquette, now tonight. The MU and Syracuse games show the team can play hard, smart AND well - capable of beating anyone. Tonight showed they can still be in games when only 1 of those factors are working in our favor, but it's a mighty struggle.

Parker will turn himself into a serious NBA prospect next season. He's gonna make that jump we've seen from so many UC players in the past between their junior and senior years. I can feel it.

RE: Postgame/Post BE Tournament thoughts - cpawfan - 03-11-2012 12:20 AM

I believe I saw on twitter that either Mick or Yancy said the team was over confident coming into the game. It showed in the play in the first half. Bad decisions on offense, people standing around, and a lack of ball movement all led to a lot of missed shots and no offensive rebounding.

Parker is fearless and he finishes. SK comes and goes with this - so capable of taking it to the rim but seems to want to hang out by the 3 point line now. Maybe the biggest key to our tourney success or failure in the next few weeks, outside of Cash.
