Have a Shields call-in show at a popular eating place in Little Rock. I think the Cardinals used to do that at Shannon's Place, didn't they?

I was watching a little of the NFL Combine on the NFL network, but it is also on ESPN.360. You would not think many people would be interested in watching people running and jumping and doing drills, but obviously they have an audience. It occurred to me that an easy way to promote our program would be on our website. Have our practices filmed, or at least the parts that the coaches wouldn't mind having filmed and put it out on our website. Young people today are used to using their computers to watch everything, so we could advertise that they could watch Trojan practices on UALR.com once or twice a week. Steve's excuse for closing practices is that having people there distracts the players. This would eliminate that situation but allow fans, or prospective fans to get to know the players and coaches. Maybe just show the scrimmages and have a coach narrate as to who the players are. It could probably be done inexpensively. And being on the computer would allow our fans who don't live in Little Rock, or even Arkansas, could become familiar with our program and players. Seems like a simple way to promote our program. Plus put our coaches shows on the internet. Many of us don't have Comcast and cant' watch the show. Anybody see any problem with this?

Sure it would be nice, but what's in it for the coaches and players? I would think they would be too busy to mess with that.

I believe we used to have our coaches show at Mexico Chiquita on Rodney Parham which is now gone. Newell, Platt, and I believe even Wimp did shows from there. Would be nice if we could find another restaurant to do it at.

Looks like having a call-in show from a public spot would guarantee a certain degree of public interest just by the nature of it. The restaurant obviously would want to advertise it to pull in patrons.

I remember going when Wimp was the coach. We also had breakfast meetings at the Embassy Sweets when Porter was the coach. Good times.04-cheers

What about Corky's? I would think that the the owner would go along with that.

Seems like I've read on the ASU board that John Brady's radio show is held in a restaurant.

It is held at Brickhouse Bar and Grill. It's a popular downtown bar and music venue.

We could have the how at my house if they wanted to. Bottom line is money. Somebody still has to pay for the air time. Isn't Shields' tv show on the Comcast local access channel? That channel is free for all to use. I have Dish, so I have never seen the show. Shows like that are a hard sell even in good economic times. How many different sponsors does the tv show have? I have not noticed this year, but two years ago during road game broadcasts you would hear the same commercials over and over during the same commercial break, sometimes just music and sometimes dead air because UALR could not sell all the radio spots for a game.

Doesn't Joe own a restaurant?

Why don't we do this? - insideualr - 02-29-2012 06:38 PM

Did anyone listen to the radio show this week? I called in but they never picked up.

2 questions:

1. Steve, what did you draw up for the last set play?

2. Chris, what will happen to UALR as the sbc adds more teams?

RE: Why don't we do this? - outsideualr - 02-29-2012 07:45 PM

Could they repeat the show on either Trojan Tracker or the UALR Trojan website? I have Uverse, and I can't get it either.

RE: Why don't we do this? - ez272 - 03-01-2012 05:11 PM

Well shoot. I didn't even know there was a radio show. Why don't they do it from Corky's or The Faded Rose? I do not know why they do not put the coaches TV show on their YouTube channel either. Makes since to me.
