ESPN’s Lunardi still has UC as No. 12 seed
02/20/12 at 10:58am by bkoch

UC’s two victories last week at home over Providence and Seton Hall did not change the Bearcats’ standing as a No. 12 seed in Joe Lunardi’s projected NCAA Tournament bracket that was posted this morning.

Jerry Palm of CollegeRPI.com did not have UC on his latest bracket, which was posted last Friday morning before the Bearcats beat Seton Hall. Palm projected Seton Hall as a No. 9 seed. UC has a better conference record at 9-5 than the Pirates (7-8). Palm also has UConn as a No. 9 seed. The defending national champs have lost seven of their last nine and are 6-8 in the Big East, just 16-10 overall.

Both teams have higher RPIs than UC, which is No. 82 this morning. Seton Hall is No. 34 and UConn is No. 27. In the BPI rankings that ESPN recently introduced, UC is ranked No. 51, with UConn 39 and Seton Hall 45. Those rankings take into account such factors as not only who won and lost, but by how much and whether either team was missing key players.

was just looking at the bracket, and it looks like if UC can get to that 8/9/10 range there is a very good chance they'll be playing close to home in either Louisville, Pittsburgh, or Columbus. 3 out of 4 8-9 games are in those regions.

He actually moved us from a 12 seed play in game to a 12 seed non play in . So we are not one of the "last 4 in" . Things are looking up. : / . Actually I wouldnt mind that being that 12 seed that makes the Sweet 16 this year.

According to the rpi, Xavier's SOS is at 146 and UC's SOS is at 122.

Gee, that A-10 conference is such a powerhouse. 03-nerner

We need to win out the remainder of the regular season. Win at least 1 in the big east tourney. That should get us in but if we lose to louisville and another team, we better just count on playing a few in the NIT.

We need to go 3-1.

we don't need to win out but we need to win the majority of them that's for sure

Yeah I disagree too. 2 wins and we are looking good. 3 is a lock IMO, even if one of them is a BE Tourney win.

In Lundari's Friday updated bracket he has Cincinnati as a 10 seed playing in Louisville. I personally would love that scenario, although I might prefer a 11 seed. If UC keeps winning they'll get to the dreaded 8/9 line so hopefully they keep winning and get out of that.

The 8-9 line doesn't bother me this year, I'm not convinced any of the 1 seers are that scary besides maybe UK

If UC has to play any high seed, I'd really like it to be Duke.

the best part of this years tournament is almost every site UC could play at is very close to home there is Pittsburgh, Columbus and Louisville all hosting 8/9, 7/10 and 6/11 games.

Sites aren't guaranteed seed matchups, are they? I thought that teams were sent to locations that were advantageous to the top seeds, ex. UK going to Louisville.

Doesn't matter. if we make the tourney, we are getting shipped to the destination furthest west.

If we are an 8-9 we probably arent. If Syracuse, Duke, UK, and Michigan St are the top seeds we will be somewhere east in one of their pods.

Other Big East Teams in but sweating it out...

A win against Marquette Wednesday should seal the deal
